ok, I am confused too. I have had one negative in the last 12 months and that was as a buyer ( I paid the day after winning and complained because the seller took 3 weeks to ship my items- I get a neg for that?!?) and I have had no neutrals, so how is it that my feedback goes from a 99.7 to a 97.5???

I still sell on ebay but find myself buying most things elsewhere now.

I feel bad for sellers, that's some pretty ridiculous shit.

Although about the shipping charges, and having to get a 4.5, I find it annoying when someone is charging 10 bucks to ship to the states and 35 to ship to Canada, when the actual cost is ~$15. I understand you want to recover costs, but that kind of overcharge is ridiculous.

I realize this isn't going to be a very popular opinion but I don't see what the big deal is. No one pays that much attention to feedback anyways and all the sellers will be subject to the same psycho buyers so it's not like anyone is at some big disadvantage. Don't let buyers rip you off and it shouldn't be a big deal. Just let 'em neg you if it comes to that. All the other sellers are getting equally screwed, right?

As far as revoking people's Powerseller status based on feedback, well, that's BS. If they're going to change the feedback system to give buyers the advantage then they need to take that into account and lower their standards a little too.

That is not correct if the seller ships via Express to protect themselves through a paypal payment.

MGoose--EXPRESS is the only trackable method, Priority is now about $9.95 flat rate to Canada and its NOT trackable. Express is now more than $22 since postage rates went up too

The new ebay feedback system isn't perfect, but it's way better than the old system.

Here's the thing - Sellers right now are feeling butt-hurt because they're seeing their near-100% feedback scores fall somewhere into the high to mid 90s, and fear that they'll be perceived as disreputable sellers.

What they're not taking into account, is that their new score will be weighted against everybody else's score! So instead of having unrealistic expectations of sellers feedback purity, we'll actually have a sensible gauge by which we'll be able to evaluate sellers.

And - most importantly - buyers won't feel shy about letting their thoughts be known for fear of retaliation.

Just recently, I bought a fake from an ebayer who was aggressively hawking fakes and bullying buyers into leaving positive feedback, or retracted feedback. Because I cared more about preserving the integrity of my account than getting justice I declined to leave any feedback at all.

The guy in question had 100% positive feedback with over 200 transactions - selling nothing but fake Diesel & G-Star jackets. Now, if you saw an account like that you'd probably think (like I did), "Hey, this guy's got plenty of good rep. I'll just bid with confidence."

But, now that the new feedback rules have been instated on ebay, he's been fed a shitstorm of negative feedbacks. It's only a matter of time before his account is rendered useless and he'll have to fold shop, or simply accept that nobody is willing to pay more fake prices for his fakes.

Think about the 3rd party sellers on Amazon and other shopping aggregate sites like BizRate. Do you expect 100% positive reviews? Of course you don't. If a seller has 4.5 out of 5 stars you just presume that they're on the up and up. The same mentality will soon apply to ebay.

So yeah, some people will have more negs, but under the new regime, the power of negative feedback is somewhat diluted.

The bottom line is that malicious sellers won't be able to survive under the new system, and 100% will eventually cease to be a seller's ideal.

It's just that Americans, well...we...just hate Canada...

Thats why you should have 1 account for buying and 1 for selling. Than you can leave what ever feedback you think is right.



Lets say that if a buyer leaves me a neg because they "think" I sell fakes that it is NOT right and NOT fair to the seller. I should be able to warn the eBay community that the buyer "thinks" with out looking at the facts.

Also what happens when I get scammed by a buyer using a stolen CC? I can't neg them to warn other sellers that this buyer is going to rip them off? So now the buyer can just scam the hell out of a bunch of sellers and they will not know any better until they get a chargeback! Sounds like BS to me!

International buyer doesn't want to pay customs fees and negs me? eBay won't remove this feedback and I can't neg them back???? wtf! This is not right. I am running a legit business I will not commit a crime to complete a transaction!

Buyers and people who don't sell don't really have enough knowledge on this subject to say it is a good or bad idea. You do not know the crap that we have to put up with on a daily basis. I get people bidding on my auctions just to tie up my items because they have some grudge against me making money. These people have nothing better to do than hurt someone who is trying to run an honest and legit business. They should NOT be allowed to run around unchecked.

Its easy to say this is a great idea when you have little to no experience selling on eBay.

I agree with treasurehoard about opening separate accounts for buying and selling. My husband did that a long time ago and I should have. I have often resisted leaving negatives as a buyer b/c of fear that it would negatively impact my feedback as a seller. I am going to keep my current account for selling and open a new account to buy!! I may buy from treaurehoard first (so watch out for the buyer with no feedback!!!!!). Seriously I should have separated my account a long long time ago.

a few questions to nfj.. Can you file a non paid item strike if they have proof they paid? Couldn't you get in trouble for doing so with ebay if you do it enough times and all the buyers show proof of payment???

I agree with Grondie that if you look at amazon it's like that but the mentality hasn't set in yet and won't for a long time with ebay, so if you see a 87% buyer on amazon you don't think bad twice about it, but if you see one on ebay you think they seriously f'ed up somewhere. Suddenly lots of my buyers are MIA when it comes to payment. Filing a 'non payment' dispute will just provoke negatives so that's another problem.

To Treasurehord - It's an even playing field and everybody who sells in volume, like yourself, will be subject to the same challenges posed by these new rules. So it really doesn't matter that you'll pick up more negs, because in the long run, your repuatation will be credible. Sure 97 - 98% doesn't sound like a good ebay score right now - but once buyers adjust to the new system, they'll recognize you for the upstanding seller that you are.

I don't see anything wrong with the one sided feedback system since it's how every other online shopping/service directory runs their business. If I book a room at the Ramada and am dissatsified with the service, why the hell should the hotel be able to leave comments in retaliation like... "Room was left dirty, terrible customer, total crackhead, did not tip."

Also, I can sympathize with your dilema as somebody who is constantly having to service multiple listings - I sell jeans on ebay fom time to time and it is tremendously labor intensive, especially from the customer service point of view. I have a hard enough time running two auctions simultaneously, let alone the tens or hundreds that you must on a regular basis.

If the new system puts undue responsibility on sellers to police buyer behavior I'm sure that the inevitable shitstorm of seller complaints will lead ebay to make concessions. That's presumptuous of course, but I think ebay would at least have a modicum of consideration for their key revenue generators.

As for dedicated accounts for buying & selling - This doesn't work for ordinary guys like me who want to hold quality listings. I've only sold on ebay about 8 or 9 times, but when I do I'm intent on holding the best listing possible to maximize the auction's potential. Because I've built up a track record with purchases over the years and put that on the line every time I list, I'm able to get very favorable results from my auctions.

But if I had a dedicated selling account I wouldn't even have 10 feedbacks yet! There's no way to prove this, but I doubt if people would be willing to pay top dollar for my used jeans, let alone high-ticket items, if I didn't have the track record to back it up. Using one account for all of my transactions has given me the critical mass to sell with credibility - something I couldn't achieve with two accounts.

97% is not powerseller status. If I am not a powerseller my listing will be limited severely. They will let me list about 1/3 or less of what I currently list. Unfortunately for me that would mean listing 150~200 auctions at a time. If I can only list a limited number of auctions than I will not be able to make enough money where it will be worth my time to continue using eBay as a venue.

Last time I was limited due to a FALSE and ILLEGAL VeRO pull down I was limited to less than 150 auctions for nearly 3 weeks. Unfortunately if I am limited for months at a time like this than I will be closing my business on eBay because I cannot afford to pay my employees, my rent or any of my other overhead.

I already had one guy leave a negative feedback today:

SHIRT WAS FAKE AND HAD A HUGE HOLE IN IT

It is clearly stated in the listing that the shirt has a 1" hole in it. The shirt is 100% authentic.

This false negative feedback is damaging my reputation. Being able to leave feedback letting other sellers know that this buyer is attacking honest sellers reputations is very important.

A hotel might not be able to leave feedback for you trashing the room but they can charge you if you are destroying shit, they can also ban you from the hotel and if they catch you in the act of destroying their property they can and will call the cops. Their feedback is you better find another place to stay (like jail) if you can't act respect their property!

Of course some normal messiness is tolerated at hotels because it is expected and no one is going to complain about a dirty room and a few beer cans.


If you go to revolve and return an item that is trashed after wearing it for a week and rolling in the mud or rip them off by doing a credit card chargeback than you will probably end up blocked from buying on that site again.


I don't care if I can't leave negatives as long as the buyers leave accurate comments and cannot leave negatives for things that are clearly stated in the listing! If the buyers leave comments libeling the reputation of sellers than that shit needs to be stopped. Right now there is nothing in place to stop that.

The only way for me to get this libel removed from my listings is to sue the buyer. Unfortunately that is not feasible in many cases.

All we can do is let the free market decide. Ebay has been on a downward slope for a while anyway.

I have to admit Treasurehoard, there's a slew of problems posed to PowerSellers like yourself and I sympathise with the threat that's attached to doing volume business on ebay. I see the new system through my two-bit user prism as a net plus, and for you it creates a world of difficulty.

At the end of the day, it's PowerSellers that keep the lights on at ebay - so I can only imagine that the selling experience with time, or else folks like yourself will find another venue.

As for the 97% qualifier - My guess is that ebay will lower the bar to something realistic, like 96%, over time.

Great but in the meantime that means that sellers who make all or part of their income will be going out of business due to the unrealistic standard.

eBay's goal is to get away from their bad rep w/ buyers. Now they are going to have a bad rep w/ sellers and they will still have a bad rep with buyers because realistically they are NOT fixing the problem! Many bad sellers just start new accounts they do not care about negative feedback. They get kicked off and than come back with a new ID and start scamming all over again!

They (eBay) are a bunch of idiots. They made a huge mess and now they are trying to fix it by making a whole new mess.

There is a way to fix this mess. It is easy but requires some work on eBay's part. ... however they are just a venue so it will never happen on that site.


I have visited many auction sites in the US and internationally. eBay is setting itself up for failure. If they want to be known as the worlds biggest garage sale - full of scammers (buyers and sellers both!) than they are right on track.

My guess is that they're trying to filter out the tremendous amount of powersellers that have recently overthrown ebay (everyone is practically a powerseller these days) and even the casual seller. Ebay probably just wants its top 2% merchants (rather, powersellers) to provide to the whole world. Because you really only need 1 seller to provide to 1000s of buyers each year. Much like other websites have only a couple of featured merchants who sell 30,000 items a year and then pages of independent sellers nobody really needs who just cause problems to well oiled machines such as ebay.

IF you buy from a seller with 20,000 feedback, a buyer doesn't have to worry about getting ripped off. If you buy from someone with 14 feedback, you worry and it rarely holds up to your standards.
