The Boots and Shoes thread (w/ PICS) - Page 85

I wouldnt do it. Kills the advantages of the leather soles and looks horrible imo. None of my full leather shoes has protective rubber soles.
I put protectives soles on my yorks. Costs my 14€ for the pair.

As i plan on keeping my Yorks for a very long time, i think it's worth it. And when you say that it looks horrible, who's gonna look under my shoes?

And leather soles are just too slippy on various surfaces.

Right click/save as for bigger size.

while it does make sense to get them, I do agree with ben as well. it's kinda pointless to have leather soles in the first palce if they're not getting any use. especially since leather soles are supposed to last longer.
^^ Saddock - did they cut the leather sole out and put rubber one? or is it just on top of leather sole, on your picture it looks like they cut the leather out

Since the Leather soles on yorks are hard and thick i didn't put anything on them but I soled my All saints boots straight away.
Well, its not like those rubber soles on sadocks yorks can't be replaced in a few years when they are worn out.
Zodiac : I don't know the exact process but they are just glued in some way. It's a thin protection (maybe 1mm thick or less) that can be replaced when they are worn out like dzondlo said.

I have no experience in leather soles longevity but I can say without taking a lot of risks that it has to cost an arm to resole a pair of PS.

And beyond protection, the rubber pads was also for me a way not to slip on very smooth surfaces. Maybe you get better "traction" when the leather soles show some wear, anyway i'm satisfied with those rubber soles.

Here are some close pics, you can see that the rubber is a little peeled of on the front pic.

The only thing I worry about is rain. If it's raining I will not wear leather soles, as they absorb water which can warp or effect the longevity of the sole.

^ Blackmetal fuck off you limpdick.

Saddock - is it glued on top of the PS sole or is it flatened with leather sole so that leather and rubber is in the same level?
Here is my All saints with soles on them, just glued on top so they wont get wet. Cost me like £8 to do it.

^lol, how can it be on the same level? did they fuse together to form a hybrid sole? lol.
^ sure it can, Yorks soles are thick and strong. Even in rainy weather they stay dry, sometimes. you can take of 1mm of sole no problem and just glue a rubber one on top.

Rubber soles run ~$35. Imo, you are an idiot not to get these done if you plan on keeping your shoes for a long time. Having a shoe properly resoled (relasted) costs a lot of money. Some companies charge up to $300 to relast a pair of shoes.

You tell me $35 or $300? Seems like a no brainer to me.
you are very wise.
too bad the shaft on these is wide for thanaz. That and the price, $695.

Sounds sound, but its missing logic:

You can get your feet covered for 20$ but you pay several hundreds (or even thousands) for shoes?

Why do you think that ALL better shoe-manufacturers produce shoes with leather soles? Because they are inferior to rubber soles? To be able to charge for resoleing? To have people spend extra money on additional rubber soles? Not really, are you?

You seem to know not only a lot about fashion but also about shoes and the associated craftsmanship. You should know better than that.

The leather is treated (tanned) in a way it gets hydrophobic. You can treat the soles with special oils/tonics to ensure the effect is longlasting. In case you didnt know: After a day of wear, a full leather shoe should rest a full day unworn to be able to get rid of humidity. The bit of water in the outmost layer of the sole, vanishes in the same time as well.

My Chukka boots are almost two years old and I wore them in rain and snow as well. The soles are fine and still have years of wear in them before I have to resole them. Only thing with snow is that leather soles have less grip.

I really dont understand why you guys spent so much money on shoes, having (in most cases) high quality materials and then have someone glue some plastic on top of the quality material...
