paying custom fees for items over $500...anyone know how much?

Hi! I was just wondering how much would the custom fee be for an item way over $500? The seller can mark it as gift but still place the actual value..so from the US to Canada, im unsure as to how much id get charge for..anyone have had any experience??

I believe its 18% for clothing from the states and maybe sometimes gst on top

I had to pay around 80$ for 600 bag!
Thank god I loved the bag, mine was marked as a gift as well, it didnt help :S

My understanding is that if the gift is under $20 then there is no charge-
i tried reading the duties and customs before online and it was really convoluted.

^ you're right. it doesn't matter whether it's a gift or not, contrary to popular belief.

you'll be charged approx $80.
