Zatiny 8IW - In Detail

8IW is a hard wash to get a handle on because it doesn't photograph well, and there's minor variations from pair to pair that greatly affects its overall appeal.

I bought these yesterday and was apprehensive, because there was a perfect pair on the floor that had lots of deep indigo abrasion hilights, and I couldn't find another pair in stock that had the exact same look, front and back. At worst some pairs will have flat, dry, sandblasted look reminiscent of 784 or even 770, and at best, some pairs will have a very rich indigo fades that appear like naturally distressed denim. The biggest make or break is the lap distressing - some pairs are too harsh and look bogus, and others have a more gradual cutoff. It's not much different than the variations we find with other Diesels, but with this wash it's more critical to the pairs' overall appeal.

After scrutinizing 4 different "specimens" I settled on a pair that was probably as good as it was going to get. I was thinking about just waiting out to see if these go on discount, but then I wouldn't get the pick of the litter. If you're so inclined to grab 8IW I suggest buying them in person, and demand to see as many examples as they have in stock.

I took these photos under the florescent tube-lighting of my kitchen without flash and color corrected the images to be as true to life as possible. Of course, color will vary depending on your display settings - Photos may look slightly darker if you're using a Windows PC. Please note - this is what 8IW should ideally look like, but other pairs are going to look more sandblasted.

Here's pics of 8IW compared with 88Z and 8AA (left to right)

With flash:

Here's worn pics. I sized down to 32 (I'm a 33 in Zatiny 88Z) and went with a 32L inseam. The inseam on these runs more or less true to size - defnitely not long.

Awesome pics, nice camera. They look awesome and that's the benefit of buying in person and paying full price!

When Josh walks into a Diesel store the Clerks think two things:

1. I'm gonna bank!
2. Zatiny is it? Let me bring out ALL 7 of them.

*cue jeopardy music as Josh examines jeans under microscope.

Oh yeah, 32x32 are much better looking. Also an easier size to resell than 33x30. Maybe you should consider that size always in the future. I switched from a 30 inseam to a 32 mainly because it's easier to resell and it's better to be safe with a longer stacked leg than a shorter one. Thigh and knee crinkles also take off a good CM or so in the long run and washes shrink them.

Do they button easily?

i was on the fence about these too. i think I will buy them soon though. I just want to see if they will come in in any other cuts. Maybe Viker. Overall, I would say they are a great wash, but fall just a little short compared to my favorite washes. They would make my top 10 though.

Funny. That's exactly what happened. "Do you have 8DK? No? Oh wait... you have 8IW! Can you please grab 8 pairs out of the back?"

I'll probably will buy 32x32 when I can. These may need a -1" hem job, but maybe not - so long as the leg-opening doesn't drag. They button tight, but will definitely be fine after one or two wears.

There's no dirt, which is sort of a bummer. That could have really thrown this wash over the top.

Awesome, as highlighted in the pics. Of all the new washes in this season in the UK this is far and away the best one. Just gutted that the UK never bought in to the Thanaz in the same wash.

I don't think you should hem them. They look fine.

AWESOME pictures and a NICE pair of jeans. +1.

Nice jeans, but they look a bit like a darker 784. Is that what they look like in person?

Those are sweet! Thanks for the pics Grondie.

They don't feel 784 to me, although the two washes are somewhat close. You be the judge - I adjusted the photos to look as true to life as possible.

Thats a nice wash and fit you perfect imo

Grondie those look really nice! I really want a pair now! How do they fit compared to 8FC?
Very nice
i think you should hem them. im picky about those things =x
post #21 of 27
From a color perspective, it's almost '784 meets 764'.

On you, they look straight leg -- which is how Zatiny looks on me, too.

RE hemming: do they drag on the floor now? Shortening them will take off a minimum 1/2-1", right? Wouldn't that make them too short?

I would like to know as well. Also, are these stretch? If so what percent?

Compared to 8FC, 8IW is more forgiving. I bought 8FC in size 33 and they were a tight fit until I broke them in. I sized-down to 32 with 8IW, and I think they'll feel just fine after one or two wears.

They're not stretch - 100% cotton.

As for the inseam, I'll have to see if they bite under my heel or not. In the photos, I'm wearing raised-heel shoes which raises the leg opening high as it would ever go. So if I decide not to hem, sneakers and loafers are out of the question. I have a pair of 32L Zathan 8BEs that I can only wear with heeled-shoes and unfortuntely they're starting to fray after just a few wears. The promblem is that my ideal inseam length is 31. In most cases both 30 and 32 don't work for me. Because of this, certain jeans just get fixed to certain footwear.

I'd say 8IW seems pretty close to the denim of 89Z, but with 784 style fading on the front minus the rust... if that makes sense. 764 still reigns king of the medium dark washes IMO.

I gave up after seeing the pair on the floor, not realizing they vary so much... your pair is sick!

Well, I may have another look, thank you for your attention to detail.
