Arms, lower/upper back ( depending on where you grab the bar), it also hits your abs a bit

so I totally binged fri/sat. Well Friday I ate garbage but I watched my calories so I didn't go over board. Yesterday I ate pure garbage. Total pity party for me. I also decided that since I wasnted hungry for dinner it wasn't necessary to eat before a good hard night of drinking. ugh. note to self: never do that again.
Thanks you too! I love Diet Coke the most, but all diet drinks!! I can't help it! Diet coke is calorie free, but the caffeine is no good at all, and the chemicals wooo!

Lol I had a crappy weekend, because its my weekend to get all the bad food out of the way before starting a fresh tomorrow (Monday) I have a yoga class booked for tomorrow and I packed a health lunch

I weighed myself at the gym this morning and I am down 2.2 pounds. I am 170 lbs right now but I am noticing my skin is toning up. I also have more energy, focusing better in lectures, and sleeping better now.

Chris,

what is the best way to determine maximum fat burning range for your heart rate? I know there are generic calculators, but I want it to be effective, that is the only reason I am doing cardio, to burn fat.

I did get a heart rate monitor and love it. The problem is I like to push it, and I know you can get into the more muscle building range, than fat burning.

Today was a good mail day (see WDYBT in Fashion Fashion). I'm a little sad though, because the skirt is a little too big (well, it actually fits perfectly but I'm worried it'll be too loose in spring) and the top is a little too small (fits fine, but I'll have to wear a cami underneath it and I always feel 10lbs+ heavier when I add a tissue tank).

I get bummed shopping because it's hard to find cute clothes that are my style (feminine/vintage/prep) because of my body type. I've got reallly broad shoulders, so I'll find a super cute top with cap sleeves or some sort of embellishment on the shoulder and I can't wear it Babydoll often looks like maternity ware too... Scoop neck/sweetheart often looks great, but it'll be so low that I can't wear it out in public.

There is a happy medium for fat burning, and when you go balls out its more for cardio.

Here is a great article to figure out what your heart rate should be for optimal fat burning

Callire you look great! But I agree the skirt needs to come up. It's cool that you already have a style! Mine is somewhere between jean festish weirdo and lazy work out wear. Terrible, I know. I'm going to a b-day party tomorrow and think I have a great outfit... I might post

Ah! So I've been doing push ups! I started at 6, then 10, and tonight I did 3 reps of 5. hahah low, I know, but my arms and pecs are killing me. I'm so proud !!! My diet has been "good." Not great, but nothing that I'm not proud of. Over all I'd say I've improved a lot and have been really great about logging in my calories. Weight wise I'm down about 3lbs *I think* I'm going to do a proper weigh in tomorrow. This means I'm 7lbs away from my goal weight I'm already noticing a difference in how my pants fit (less muffin).

thanks Chris! I went to Barnes & Noble, trying to read a few books about it, but it seemed like there are a bunch of different philosophies

From what i hear, not much fat is burned during cardio. Instead it is burned throughout the rest of the day by your metabolism, and it would be advantageous to do cardio that will stimulate your metabolism (high intensity interval training) and early in the day that way your metabolism work throughout the day. Basically you sprint for 15 seconds and slow it down to a light jog or walk for 45 seconds and repeat for about 15 minutes.

Obvious you probably do not want to listen to me because I am trying to gain weight. 135 to 155 in 1.5 months, 5 lbs probably from creatine and the rest from newbie gains. Mind you i am 6 ft tall so i was SKINNY.

I'm down four pounds from my original weight... I've been loosing pretty slowly, but I think that's better than my initial 6 pound drop because I don't think I'll gain it back as quickly. Still 4 pounds away from my first goal... but it's pretty exciting!

Also: Wish me luck! I'm going home this weekend and its going to be really hard to stay on track since all my parents want to do is feed me We'll go out for chinese or something fun, but then I think I'll be able to hold back.

good luck! also remember, if it isn't your ideal situation, then try to keep your portions smaller and just enjoy the flavor, also with Chinese, sometimes I'll try to eat just as many vegetables as chicken or beef or whatever, just so that I can get satisfied on those as well

So I'm a little disapointed in my weight loss. I was hoping that by the end of january to be under a certain weight and I am not.

BUT, I am in pretty darn good shape! I've improved my cardio about 10 folds (i'm working on the elipitcal in the am and the treadmill at night). I've also been slowly increasing the numbers of push ups I can do. Because I still can't do a normal sit up I've started doing bum-ups to target my lower abs at least. I really want to start my pilates but I'm going to push it back 1 more week before I try. I don't want to make my injury worse!

I've also been excellent at counting calories and staying under x amount. I'm hoping to see some pounds fall off in the next couple of weeks

This week I am going to be lacking in the exercise department because I caught a cold and feel terrible. I also don't want to go to the gym and spead the virus else where. I am trying to eat my fruit and veggies, even though I feel blah and don't feel like eating.

Hi everyone, though I would share my weight-loss goals etc. It's been very motivating reading everyone elses posts!

1. Specific Goal:
To lose weight (a fair bit in the vicinity of 15kg-sorry I'm Aussie I don't know how the whole lbs thing works haha) but also to be healthier. I have started to see a Naturopath to combat some bad symptoms I have been getting including stomach aches, not sleeping well etc.

2. List the reason(s) why we want to achieve this goal
1. I have put on a lot of weight since going to uni 4 years ago, and a little more since moving out with my boyfriend.
2. I want to be more comfortable in my frame and to not feel self conscious ALL THE TIME-like i do now.
3. I want to buy hot jeans

3. State some possible obstacles that we might encounter and ways to overcome these obstacles
I can be a bit negative and ten to 'blow-out' if I don't stick to my plans and goals, I need to learn to asccept that I might fall down and to keep going when it happens.

4. List some ways that you will go about achieving this goal
1. Use my gym membership properly
2. Continue to see my naturopath
3. Reward myself with things other than food
4. Cut back on refined foods and work on balancing my blood-sugar levels

5. State a specific time limit on your goal, it helps to have an end in site
I want to lose my first 5kgs by Easter-a nice slow weight loss that will enable me to better maintain it. I want to have lose 15kg before my 24th Birthday at the end of August this year.

^I think 2.2lbs=1kg. My family is from NZ and they don't use lbs so I have to figure out the conversions when I am over there. They use Stone as weight measurement at times but I do not understand that

I am feeling better now but I am recovering from a sinus infection which I think was caused by walking in -40C weather this week and breathing in extremely cold air. Also everyday the temperature gets warmer, I feel better.

I have also managed to fit back into a pair of 7's that I couldn't button up when I started this challenge. When I felt sick, I ate some "junk" like cookies, chocolate bars but I no longer get pleasure eating these items since I've changed my eating habits. I ate a veggie stirfry today and it bounced me back to health. It tasted better than any candy bar or cookie I've ate this week.
So I have decided that I just need to stop drinking. I have a great week, and then I blow it in ONE NIGHT by over drinking. I actually even made a veggie tray so I wouldn't eat badly, but when I'm drinking so much it doesn't really matter....

SO! I'm going dry for at least a month. I'm hoping that will help me lose weight. I'm doing a lot more push ups and sit ups now so I"m pretty darn happy about that

I'm glad your feeling better court. It was beautiful today!!! And welcome hotpinkheels.
Thanks for the welcome! I think it helps to share these things

Courtz-i think you might be right, 2.2 rings a bell. Glad to hear you're feeling better-sinus is nasty

Aw Callire I hope everythings ok!!! I've been doing pretty poorly this week too...
Maybe you can find a comprimise?

*ahem* my good post for the week: I've been doing more push ups and sit ups lately. I'm pretty proud of that. My wieght has dropped under x but about 0.6lbs hahaha. I'm still happy though. By valentines (1 week) I would like to drop another pound, and then 2 more pounds by the beginning of March. WHICH MEANS....I gotta pull up my socks and realy "give'r!"

Thanks, this made me feel a lot better I was just feeling awful for a while... I was on edge (much more pessimistic and cynical than normal) and I just wanted to crawl into bed and sleep all day long, but sleeping isn't an option during the school week, obviously.

I upped my calorie intake a little bit and I feel so much better. I'll wait until I feel better to get back on track with my plan. I also skipped a day of practice (my coach might be a bit mad at me, worse comes to worse I'll just fib a bit about cramps), and that really helped as well.

I've also been feeling cold all the time, which is a bit weird in general, but I don't know... New England is pretty frigid... and my bed is RIGHT next to the window so I get a draft
post #125 of 190
I hate being cold more than anything. My bed is also by a drafty window...grrrrrrrr. We're not replacing the windows in our house until we know if were staying here so I just have to tough it out. The wierdest thing is to wake up with a cold hand from it being against the cold! Don't worry about your coach. My basketball coach in HS was a freakout if you missed practice too. I had mono and he expected me to come and watch practice... I didn't even have energy to brush my teeth! like I was going to go.

I've upped my calories too. I went on vacation to my granny's house last weekend. It was a great relaxing vacation that I desperately needed but I became the CHIP MONSTER. I swear I ate 2 bag of chips over 3 days. I have no idea what I was thinking. So my weight is back where it was 2 weeks ago.

But...that served as a good lesson to me. I can't just be healthy and blow it (like I have been over, and over, and over). I'm back to running twice a day and doing squats, lunges, sit ups, crunches, etc every day now. Like I said my calories are higher, but I'm trying to gradually bring them down instead of starving all day and pigging out late at night (I've slowly started snack after 7:30 again which I plan to stop).

humm. so I feel de-railed and kind of hopeless but I'm not giving up. I really hate being this weight so every morning when I look at a stack of jeans that I don't fit into it's a good reminder of why I'm not having Wendy's for lunch.

Good luck everyone
