No joke. 89Z is a perfectly good wash, but then you have these phony-looking "scratches" that look like a half-assed afterthought. Why are they there? What the hell are they
supposed to look like? Because they sure as shit don't resemble anything occurring in the natural world.
Sometimes I have to stop and wonder. How does Diesel - venerated, trend-setting creator of incredible, authentic-looking distressed washes; the brand that has made the jeans of record when it comes to fads that have dominated the past several years - produce laughably cheap looking distressed washes that wouldn't have cut the mustard 3 years ago let alone today - with prices in excess of $200? Is Diesel cashing in on some of their brand equity with these cheap, shitty distressed washes? Have they lost their compass and know no better?
I can't wait to see what SS08 has in store, but I'm apprehensive. Ho-hum distressed washes are old news. If the distressing and patina don't have special qualities than it's not fit to sell. Shit like 89Z just blows me away and makes me wonder if this is just the start of Diesel milking its cache for want of fresh ideas.
