Perks for working at Holt Renfrew

Does anyone know how much SA's or other employees get paid and what type of perks and bonuses they receive working at Holt Renfrew?

I'm curious to know this as well.

I have a friend who works there, so I'll try to get the dish. I believe I recall 50% as their discount (I could be mistaken), but it didn't apply to everything. The LV discount was less.

50% off everything in the store and 25% off LV if I'm not wrong.

What is their base pay? I'm curious about that because if they get such generous discounts (50% - which is a lot for high-end merchandise) then their base pay might be much lower....? Perhaps they get commission?

I was told by a Holt employee that they didn't make commission on any sales, and they recieve higher wages in order to compensate for that. I was told this out of the blue, so I didn't really care to ask for further details.

Discount is 50%, but does not apply to everything in the store. Like bergdorf said, LV discount is less and limited.

I think someone on this forum said they worked there.

No kidding!! I'm really curious about the base pay and because the discounts are so generous. With LV 25% off is really good!

maybe i should start working at holts... what are the requirements?..

Holt's employees do get commission! That's where most of their salary comes from. They usually have competitions during the christmas season to see who sells the most and whatnot.

And yes, it's 50% off most brands except for some. I know that the discount on Links of London jewellery is like 66% or something insane like that.

i used to work there and i crazy miss the discount--however the biggest reason to Not go back is the work environment.........

This was my understanding as well. I've heard that some of their SAs are making six figures a year because of their commission sales.

I don't shop there much but I remember going there one time and they were VERY aggressive. I was there with my ex and I remember being really annoyed in how the SA was being pushy on some pricey men's skincare. It's like they can sense who has money and then they go in for the kill.

I have a friend who recently applied at HR and she actually got the job but turned it down. She said most of the interview was her being quizzed on how well she knew designer labels, and which ones she liked. She had to be pretty schmoozy apparently.

I don't really like the SAs at HR... especially the younger ones. I am in no way generalizing this to anyone else, but the ones here are so snooty that I wanna smack their face. I don't know where they got the idea that just because they're selling jeans they're better than everyone else.

Then the older ones only pay attention to the older ones and never takes people my age seriously. I usually just go in, buy whatever it is that I need and pay for it. The male SAs are much nicer even though they're snooty as well.

As far as their wage, I didn't think their base pay is that high...

if you work at HR.. please be nice!
In my experience the HR on Bloor St. in Toronto is the worst. The SAs are really rude and ignore you if they don't think you have money.
They asked my friend and I to SHARE a change room.. because they obviously thought we weren't going to buy anything.
The HR last call seems to have pretty nice people working there.. and the one in Ottawa has some of the best customer service I have seen.. I went there a few months ago and spent about an hour with the SA in shoes trying on shoes.. she was trying on the ones for me that they didn't have in my size she was super nice, and helped me the whole time, even though I told her from the beginning I was just looking and not planning on buying.

50% on regular merchandise, 33% on sale merch....and there's different discount on certain brands. Like there's a lower discount on the stuff in the Chanel boutique, because it's a licensee.

They definitely make commission.

As for requirements to work there, a friend of mine who works there said they don't really hire anyone that doesn't have 5 years of retail experience...and the places you work will factor in too (like 5 years at grocery store probably wouldn't cut it).

they are terrible at the bloor st. location

My experiences at HR have varied considerably; the ones at Bloor St are subpar, while the ones at Yorkdale are mediocre at best.

I agree... when I worked there, they were not nice to their co-workers either!

that is why i said work evironment was not so good because of some people who are snobby, twofaced, comission hungry sharks and I'm not like that so it was very difficult for me to enjoy work.

i was so happy to quit because i would be upset everyday.....
sorry to vent

This is an aside, but I think HR is light years behind the U.S. dept stores. How can they not be online yet?

They're resting on their laurels (sp?)... they need competitors.

Don't be sorry to vent! Myself and others are super curious about what the 'inside' perspective of Holt looks like.

Other than discounts on clothing and apparel, does Holt offer Health and Dental plans to employees?

I think it may have to do with the fact that they have too much competition online. People who shop online would likely just purchase from a US retailer for cheaper. It is probably not worth the money that they would put into creating online shopping.

i think the requirements are 3 years of retail experience to get a job @ HR

i read it off their website when i was thinking about applying there
post #24 of 28
bumping this because i have a group interview there soon
any idea what it will be like? questions asked, what to wear, etc.
No clue, but I have a friend who was just hired at Holt. Had to go through 3 interviews.
