I would if we had more choices in Austin.
We have an OK shopping mall and a upper-scale one but so far nothing has caught my eyes. Plus either Dallas or Houston is 3 hrs away and I want to surprise her.

As for budget, I think somewhere between 1k to 1.5k is reasonable because:
A nice coat (design + material) is like investment,
she deserves it.

Nordstrom.com has soia & kyo. They have a couple mackage coats at NRack for $400ish.

edit: ^ man, you're one hell of a guy. What a lucky girl
Oh, and this may be too inexpensive for ya, but I really like, and plan to get this jacket:
