So a few months ago my friends who live in China showed me pictures of themselves with eyelash perms. I live in a small town where there is nothing like that offered so while I was on vacation in California I stopped by a salon recommended by a hair dresser to get the eyelash perm done. The price said $22 which seemed reasonable so they took me to the back room where I closed my eyes and the woman worked away at my lashes. Now in order to protect my eyesight I had my eyes closed the whole time and had no idea what she was doing. When she was done I told that I would be paying by credit card and she said "$80". I flipped out and took her to the front room where the sign said $22 and she insisted that I had asked for eyelash extensions. Now, I know that there is no way that I could have asked for extensions because (1) I didn't know they existed and (2) there is no sign on the wall saying that they even offer this service. I felt ripped off that they gave me an irreversible service that I did not ask for and refused to pay. I did however feel guilty for using their time (it took 1 hr) so I offered to pay the$22 plus tip that I would have spent if they had given me the perm (although I feel like I should have just left without paying period). As soon as I got to the car I realized that I totally look like I am going out clubbing which is ridiculous considering I spend like 16 hours a day in the operating room and now my eyeglasses (which used to rub against my normal lashes if i didn't curl them) have to be worn like a grandma down on my nose to keep my "hooker lashes" from smashing up against them.
Anyway, I just needed to vent. Beware of shady salons and possible language barriers when going to places you are not familiar with.
