Some people might care, some might not.

New iPod/iTunes announcements on Wed.
1 iPod Touch with flash-memory, WiFi and OS X-based Cover Flow user interface
2 iPod nano "phatty"
3 Wireless iTunes store sales for iPhone and wireless iPod(s)
4 (PRODUCT) Red iPod shuffle
5 iTunes ringtone service
6 Beatles on iTunes -- yes, again

Of course its all just guesses. Apple likes to keep mum about all upcoming announcements and I don't have a direct line to Mr Jobs. I'd say that the announcement of this new iPod is pretty much agreed upon across the board though. None the less, it's only one more day until it's no longer speculation.

Until then, here's a video of some of the "mockups" that people have said it will look like.

i need a new iPod - I also don't like the mockups 925 and macrumors have posted of the nano - I hope touch isn't toooo expensive!

there are no new ipods coming out sept 5.

instead there is going to be an official announcement from apple stating the features of the new ipod which has yet to have a release date. all of the talk about touch screen etc is just speculative at this point however it seems to be a pretty valid rumor.

i still dont know why everyone is calling the rumored nano update the fatpod or what have you.
its not any wider or thicker in any mockups or spy shots ive seen. just shorter. sure its BMI is a little higher now, but its not quite fat.

This is not the credited response.

Apple has never announced new iPod generations and not come out with them the same day. They day they announced the discontinuation of the mini and the nano - nano was in stores. Video? Same deal. They don't want a day where people stop buying iPods because of an official Apple announcement.

Maybe there wont even be a ipod "phatty". Its all speculation till tomrorow!!!!!
And hopefully with the announcements, the ipods will also be released on the same date (Sept 5). Nothing is for sure with Jobs since he's so tight lipped, but if apple follows their history, according to Avatar, then we should see new ipods for sale tomrorow. YAY!

The only product Apple has had a press release for that did not release the same day in the last few years was the iPhone.

exactly. and only because they didnt want the FCC leaking anything.
ipods will be announced and will be available same day. they wont be included in the ipod+mac promotion going on right now, however...
