Honest Mall idea for consideration

I have had it up to here with selling on HM. Too many times has some troll gone and threadcrapped and ruined my sales.
People think that the HM is charity. And GOD FORBID people try to sell for profit on it! The HM is a marketplace like any other marketplace and should be SEPERATED from the forum.
I am asking for Dave's and whoever else is in charge's consideration to allow the seller to be able to mod his own sale threads. This means deleting any unwanted posts to it.
The HM should NOT be considered a forum. Already we can not post anything but sales in there. Why should people be allowed to threadcrap sales? I can not for the life of me see why this is a problem. I dont see ebay allowing people to post on auctions saying "HEY GO TO WWW.IMANASSHOLE.COM TO FIND THOSE JEANS FOR CHEAPER!"

Of course HM mods would still have power over all threads, but it is unfair to allow sales to ruin b/c of trolls.

As I said before, the HM is a marketplace. It is American capitalism at its best. If someone is disruptive in a retail store, the owner throws them out. I should be able to do the same

then list on ebay

threadcrapping is not cool

but neither is this

Giving regular members mod rights in selling threads is a bad idea. I do want you guys to be able to edit your titles etc, I cant tell you how much time I spend changing the price by $5 in titles...

If you have a problem with someone trolling, or making statements that have nothing to do with the sale/threadcrapping.. Just pm me. I will remove it.
Or you can also pm any of the other mall mods.

way to come up with a solution, blackcandy

kelly ive done that before and all they could do was add a little note under it "threadcrapping is not allowed!"

not very effective...besides..once a sale is ruined/threadcrapped on Hm it is highly improbable it will sell after that.

What is so bad about being able to edit our own titles? And if you dont like changhing the price in titles, then we can do it. SO then what is the problem?
What the hell are people posting that's so horrible to you? I've never seen anyone post anything like, "I could get those way cheaper at Nordstrom Rack, etc" in HM, though I've had the thought several times when I see people marking things WAYYY up...

Honestly, I would think you would appreciate the free bump you get when someone else posts on your thread.

On other forums, only the seller can reply to his/ her own thread, and any questions must be directed by PM.... that would take care of this problem here, pretty much, except that the inboxes would fill up really, really fast considering the size.

Did you read what I wrote?

I said that I WANT you all to be able to edit your titles, but that modding your own threads (deleting/editing etc) is not a good idea to me.

When I see threadcrapping, i completely remove the comment and add something like
[mod edit - has nothing to do with the sale] or something along those lines.
So if you arent getting that from the other mall mods, then pm me and I'll do it.

in the future, it would be better to start a separate thread like: ATTN: 71J CHEAPER AT JJDENIM DON'T GET RIPPED OFF BECAUSE OF A FALSE CLAIM OF BEING SOLD OUT
post #9 of 134
report the post it will get fixed
regardless of what you think, this is a community first and a marketplace second. if you want to sell your stuff for profit or personal gain, list it on ebay.
if you are refering to this:

http://www.honestforum.com/mens-30-3...verywhere.html

you have no right to be pissed. its not threadcrapping so much as calling you out on a flat-out lie. it would be one thing if you had your asking price and someone wanted to pay it, but its quite another when you blatantly deceive potential buyers by saying that these are not available for purchase anywhere. asshat...
^Yeah, threadcrapping isnt cool and neither is lying.
you have made all of 3 posts in the last month that weren't to post or bump a sales thread of your own, so i guess i can see how you don't understand the real concept behind the forum...

hey jskidder....i had no idea that they were on sale at "jjdenim.com", i have never even been to the site before, and from my understanding, for the past 6 months, the jeans have been sold out at just about every place ive been to from NY to Canada. And when I see they are not available on any of the major websites like nordstrom, yoox, etc and I see that everyone selling them on ebay or HM has claimed they are SOLD OUT. Yes, I wiill do the same so I can sell the freakin pair. So, please, dont even begin to call me a liar and blatently decieving buyers.

And btw, even if I wanted to say they are sold out, I have EVERY RIGHT TO and I can sell for whatever price I want....HM IS A MARKETPLACE. HF is a community. I would figure even you, as long as youve been here, would know this. Any place where transactions are being made and goods are transferred is a MARKETPLACE. This is precisely why the two are seperate and I can not put a sale thread in HF Chat. If the concept of free market is foreign to you, I can refer you to any business textbook. "asshat"....

gosh im so sorry that I dont post on a regular basis anymore....hold on let me take pics of what Im wearing today, maybe then will I understand the mythical concept of this forum!

some people have other things to do....
the thing is, hm is not really a free market. it is a members-only section of a community in which the ability to sell is a privilege, not a right. and for the record, i am in no way against sellers making a profit on items sold in the mall. but in keeping with the spirit of the forum as a whole, it needs to be done HONESTLY. i can understand that you may have thought that they were sold out everywhere, but before you make claims like that you need to do your research and be sure.
Are you wearing 71j ?
I think an 'easy' solution to this would be to do what AF is doing and only allow the seller to make posts in their selling threads. {that would also eliminate post like 'oh my god those jeans are so cute, too bad I can't afford it' 'good deal!' or any other posts not having to do with buying the jeans}
HF is anything but a 'free market', nique.

but please refer me to a text book above grade 10 and i will happily refute that claim.

I think enough research was done by not seeing them in any retail locations or on neimans, yoox, nordstrom, bloomingdales, etc....im sorry if i can not check every hole in the wall website like jjdenim.com which Ive never heard of prior to today before I sell something. Regardless, it is the BUYER who needs to do the bulk of the research before handing their money, NOT the seller. So jskidder and kelly - think twice before you question my character.

While were at it, lets all get our Honest Pitchforks out and threadcrap this guys threads....

Agreed. Threadcrapping is rude, but it happens and we just need to get over it or report it. There just seems to be way to many ways to cause trouble by allowing everyone to mod their own threads.

I'm guilty of doing that. But when people do that in my threads, I find that it could potentially increase chance of sales or at least put it out there that there might be a demand, or that it's a popular style/cut/etc. It's a sort of promotion. Also, if they state something like "I love them, but I don't have the $", you could contact them later if the asking price ever decreases or you're open to a trade. It's also a free bump, which could be good or bad. I have no problem whatsoever with how the other forum does it- just my opinion.

^^ i agree, which is why I think we should allow members to mod their own sales and give HM mods overuling authority over them. If this is such a tight-knit "community" as jskidder says, then can we not trust one of our own to mod their own sales threads? Otherwise, I would prefer AF's format to the current HM format.
I personally don't have any problem with the way the mall is now. I have sold there and never had a problem with anyone posting anything negative in my threads.
