What to wear in London?

Hi,

I'm going to London next week with my husband. I intend to walk around a lot during the week, so I want to be comfy. I'm thinking of going mainly with jeans, for sightseeing. At the risk of sounding REALLY dumb - will I stick out like a sore thumb there, or are jeans worn as often there as in the US?

Hehe, I would imagine the same shoes you would wear for walking around all day ordinarily would be just fine in London, too.

I think the real question is what shoes go well with jeans but are still comfortable enough to walk around in all day! I am always on the lookout for comfortable shoes that don't look grandma-ish! I do a lot of walking...

I know! I like heels, pumps, and boots - boots especially, during fall & winter. But, they don't work too well for all day walking. I've got my eye on some shoes, and I'm betting I can wear them in before next week.

I would say that 3/4 of Londoners wear jeans, t-shirts and trainers ( sneakers). So you will fit right in.

Except of course in the city, where it is all suits....

The weather is pretty mild at the moment but can change at anytime so bring something warm with.

ohhh no matter what you wear, you'll probably stick out as a tourist. I've come to be really good at identifying Americans everywhere I go- they just sort of stand out

What do you mean - is it the white sneakers with jeans, our refusal to learn a language beyond English, or our general sense of entitlement?

I don't mind being a tourist, but just don't want to seem obnoxious

HILARIOUS, and totally true....I am with 40 Americans here and they basically refuse to try to speak a work a Czech, despite having been in the country two months already AND taking Czech language class 5 hours a week!

Oh they'd fit in well in the UK then, we are just the same about languages. Its surprising the amount of people who just speak louder to get someone that speaks a foreign language to understand them

hi!! havent been on the forum in a ages at uni now and the internet has been down!!! seems like lots has been going on in here!!! just wear whatever you do in the US! ppl here dress so differently as it is!! anyone seem any good 28s on ebay??? havent had time to look missing it!!
