Did I make a really bad decision?

okay.....
My mom was willing to purchase a handbag for me for my bday/grad present yesturday as my first, one and only designer handbag.
At first I was looking at the coach carly handbags in the smaller size.
Then I went to gucci to look at some canvas ones. Then chanel.
My mom truly despises canvas for some reason and only likes to purchase leather.
So, I had the choice between a chanel handbag and a gucci one.

I chose the black gucci guccisima leather pelham medium purse.
I contemplated a chanel, but I just wasn't feeling it. There wasn't a whole lot of selection at the chanel store in Toronto and at Holts.
So, was a I fool to pass up an opportunity to purchase a chanel leather handbag? My mom's max limit was around $2500 including tax.

Of course, when I got home from the gucci store, they gave me the wrong colour, so I haven't worn the purse yet at all and I could still return it.

Any thoughts guys?

You haven't made a bad decision imo if you really like your choice. It's not the money that matters but how much you're going to enjoy the bag.

i agree wholeheartedly.

i do, however, think that a chanel bag is probably more "classic". the gg logos don't really appeal to me (although i have one, lol).

you didnt make a bad choice! it's personal preference and if you like the Gucci more and it suits you, that also means that you will be using it a lot more than if you got the Chanel which didnt suit you.

I think you made the right choice. No matter how "timeless" people tell me Channel handbags are, I think they just look tacky and cheap. JMO

Agree with everyone else, you didn't make the wrong choice! I personally am not a Chanel fan, all of their stuff just looks like something a grandma should be carrying (don't shoot me, please, Chanel fans

I'm a Gucci whore, personally, and would probably pick Gucci over Chanel any day.

Good choice on leather. I have a canvas Gucci bag and as I'm looking at it right now, the bottom is showing some dirt (and it's only about 7 months old). The leather should last longer!

Thanks everyone for your answers.
I'm always freaked out by large purchases, and this one is no different. A little bit of support from fellow HF'ers is great

Accordingtokate: I was debating whether to choose canvas or not. The SA told me that some people just love the canvas look when given the choice between that and leather. But, she warned me that the canvas will inevitably get dirty and in some instances rip. So, like you were suggesting, I hope the leather will have a bit more lasting power.

I think you made an excellent choice! I like both Gucci and Chanel, and I guess I am like your mom, I really prefer leather to canvas... especially for that price! Congrats and enjoy your new bag!

You made the right choice! I do have the same bag. What I do love is the fact that you can use it with any outfit. Did I say I LOVE guccissima leather? is TDF!
