Lol, I was thinking why is this better than an Ipod?

^ i was wondering why it's better than an iphone...

because its a whole computer in an iPod package and it runs windows and not crapOS. Also it's much more powerful and holds a lot more.

but it doesn't make phone calls...

with this you end up having ONE MORE appliance than you would with an iPhone. and there's no way this will replace a laptop.

and the screen is worthless for anything other than reading emails, which i do on my cellphone now with a 2" screen.

don't get me wrong, it's cool they can put all that shit into a little box..but it's still just shit in a box...

I will stick with my Apple Mac any day of the week.
I havent gotten a blue screen of death on my PC in 4 years. Just today I had to help a guy with a MacOS problem because he had two versions of acrobat installed. I had to edit text files deep in the OS in order to convince BOTH macos and firefox to open PDFs with the new version, even once I trashed the old one. That plus the file-type association thing in the finder wasn't being remembered. I'll take my PC that actually works...

for those things..i choose sony vaios...because im just bias like that
for cellphones..i choose sony ericsson...but not the ones released in the states...those are just crappy. the new models elsewhere are bomb though [:

How can you compare it to an iPhone when it's not even a phone? :scratches head:

because I wouldnt be getting the iPhone for it's phone capability. Besides which, the iPhone is SUCH a multi-function gadget that you cannot really compare it to other phones, even other PDA phones.

looks cool but runs Vista....I won't touch Vista because of the way it handles DRM

+1 for Apple and the iPhone then ^ I think that's what they were going for.

Between Ben and Sarah... MacOs is good and Windows is good for certain things. Let me jump in now with Linux is the best Just kidding. Peace, not war.

Actually I think that linux is better than both of them and they both suck because they're not open source. I just like windows better than macos because it actually makes sense when it breaks and behaves somewhat rationally.

For that pudgy thing I'd rather use a subnotebook.
lol

I see that thread is may turn into a :

opensource vs proprietary softwares
mac os vs windows vs linux (vs palm os)

anyway, each of them has its advantage

how can it be compared to an iphone ? is the iphone available to the general public? is it in the same price range?

I'm really not into all the Apple hype.. they've got good marketing, they've got good design, but as for the technical part it's not the best one (see the ipod for instance, it's not the one giving the best audio quality). But yeh, Apple is a marketing machine that knows how to leak enough information to keep people on their toes.

anyway, UMPC devices can be interesting but they're still too expensive unfortunately. Just wait a bit that the price drops

and just one thing about windows/linux (not I won't start a war)
honestly, windows is very easy to use for the most majority of people, and that's where the vast majority of games run on. and I've hardly ever any problem with XP (unlike previous versions).
Linux becomes easier to configure, install but... if something does not work.. then you have to hack configuration files and stuff (I don't even talk about compiling the kernel). And you can say bye bye to virus (mostly).
I haven't tried macos, but it looks cool.

So it's a personal choice, I will never critisize someone who uses such or such OS. As long as it can do what the user wants to do without too many issues, then that's fine. why bother. (I personaly both, for different purposes)

As regards OS """manufacturers"" (I don't know the correct word in english, sorry), that's another story...

These are definately cool. I've used handheld PC's like this, but there's just one problem.

It's a product thats stuck in a gap.

They arent as portable and mobile as a blueberry or pocket pc phone.

They arent as powerful as a laptop.

It's stuck inbetween, and people usually only need the basic functionalities like IM, email, word processing, that a PDA can give. Or they need full productivity (fast internet browsing, 3d gaming) that requires a full featured laptop.

Definitely awesome to show off, but you'll find yourself needing more, or less than what it gives.
