What's a good epilator?

... so I just realized that I like to wear skirts (and the boys like it when I wear skirts!), so I need to find a way to keep my legs smooth. I don't shave (no point -- it'd just grow back black and bristly a few hours later), but wax, but that only lasts a few weeks, and then the hairs are too short to wax again for a few weeks after that.

So... I want to get an epilator. Best make/model?

*laugh* I do, but then it only lasts a couple of weeks; then, I have to hide my legs during the period where the hair is too short to wax, but too long for me to walk bare-legged, and THAT is blasphemy, I agree. So... my plan is to get an epilator so that I can flaunt my legs all the way between waxes. *thumbs up*

i have one called the braun silk-epil soft perfection..ive never had another epilator so i can't compare, you might want to wait for more reviews...but epilating is pretty painful. i use it on my arms and ive gotten used to it though it still doesnt feel great, and i guess i could prob build up a tolerance on my legs, but fyi - it wont get any part of your body silky smooth...it will LOOK smooth but you'll still feel hair if you touch your legs. i guess thats just a pet peeve of mine so i dont use it on my legs. anyway mine was around $50 and it's pink and it works just fine for me. i doubt any epilator will make the process painless but a cheapo one certainly could make it more painFUL!

I know what you're saying about waxing.. its almost impossible to do in an area that is seen frequently. I don't recommend an epilator though. It is painful and for me, when the hair was gone I had reddness around the pores of my legs so I couldn't wear a dress for a few days any way.

Maybe try something like Nair? Or just shave often?

i agree with billygoat, epilators are the devils work! the pain is so not worth the payoff...

waxing is so much less painful/easier imo.

i see what your saying about that hair growing back thing but the only thing that will make your hair 100% smooth all the time is shaving EVERYDAY.

any products you try there's always going to be something that didn't get removed, unless you go with waxing and even then it's not a 100% guarantee that they will be able to get every single hair, since hair grows at different rates.

i say wax those sexy leggies girl!

i have the same epilator as mmmich and i agree. if you're looking for silky smooth, just stick to waxing. it does hurt a bunch. i can take it on my legs, but anywhere else it takes me hours to finish just cause it hurts so bad. i got mine on sale at amazon for $10, so i thought i'd try it out.

I used to wax all the time and used epilady but I bit the bullet and finally did laser removal. After I calculated all the waxing costs it was so worth it for me.

I have lost 80% of my hair and use the epilady once a month.

I have really coarse hair that grows back literally an hour after I shave and a day after I wax, so I'm trying the laser route too.

I used an epilator once and it was the worst experience of my life.

Wax! At least yours will last a few weeks. And if you get impatient in between, you can always shave!

I must be the oddball here cuz I LOVE my epilator. I honestly don't know what I would do without it. It's by Braun, and I'm not sure of the model number but it's something along the lines of silk epil something, and it has a shaver, and epilator in one. It's got two speeds, little rubber thingys that "massage" the area being epilated and a light (gimmick if you ask me) that supposedly helps you see the hair better. It was about $100 CDN, but well worth it.

My tolerance for pain is quite high, which is why I'm probably the only one who thinks it doesn't hurt. I used to wax, but found it too time consuming trying to fit it into my schedule and find someone to babysit for me. I've been using it for quite some time now, and only have to use it every month and a half. The hairs also grow back really fine and it looks like there are less than when I first started.

Hey I totally agree
we're weirdos I guess.

Setting up appointments is a real hassle, and the money builds up!
And the sticky feeling after waxings is just ugh

I've killed the nerve endings in my underarms or something, cos it doesn't hurt when i epilate anymore! But using it on my arms is a different story, but I mean, I'm all about convenience!
