Home remidies for UTI?

Yup, so this may be a little tmi, but I've got a UTI, which sucks. Any home remidies? I'm trying to avoid having to go to the health center at all costs. (Should I just suck it up and go?)

for pain relief you can buy the OTC tablets that turn you pee orange.( they are called AZO). but if it is a true UTI you will eventually need an antibiotic so that it does turn into a kidney infection.. in the future some people find drinking cranberry juice or taking the supplement dried form of cranberry helps prevent them

I had a UTI and it SUCKED!!!!! I know how you feel. Why prolong the torture when you can go get treatment right away. Trust me I did and felt so much better.

Hopefully you have taken some symptom relief pills by now and are feeling better...the feeling of having to pee constantly is the worst!

I get UTIs all the time and I don't get antibiotics for them anymore. I just chug lots and lots of water, or any liquid is usually fine. I'll also take cranberry pills when I feel one coming on. I'm not an expert on the subject, but you don't need antibiotics to clear it up unless it's very serious. If you drink enough water within a short period of time you should be able to flush the bacteria away.

Like I said, I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure it can be treated without antibiotics, despite what doctors want you to think.

I used to get them all the time. Definately take something to stop the pain, I swear by Uristat. (same thing as Azo) I always thought antibiotics was the only way to get rid of them, until one time I got one and was out of town and couldnt get to the dr right away. I drank a ton of liquids (water, juice, beer, grey goose and cranberry.... hey i was in the bahamas on vacation...), peed a ton, and a day and a half later it was gone.

But they can get worse and move into the bladder and then the kidneys which can be very serious... so its not something to mess around with. Id say go to the health center and just get it over with.

ugh just the thought of one is bad, it is the most uncomfortable feeling ever.

I was about to post this subject since I'm positive that I got a UTI like three days ago. I had to wake up to pee three times in the middle of the night. Ugh! At first I didn't have any idea what it was then I realized it was a UTI... But the funny thing is I don't have any pain. Instead, when I finish peeing, I feel.... an orgasm like pleasure??? Has anyone experienced this? I'm just trying to drink lots of water and take cranberry pills.

I had the worst UTI ever, i was in agony and screaming, i had to go to hospital at 2am and i had about 4 courses of different anti biotics cause it wouldnt go away, i was sick for ages. I would deffinately go to the health centre and get some anti biotics or somthing incase it gets worse and into your kidneys.

Yea.. that's what makes me confused. I actually had the same symptom when I slept with my ex for the first time, which was about 3 and a half years ago. Then last Sunday, I slept with my new boyfriend and got it AGAIN??? If it's not a UTI, what is it?

Cranberry juice works very quickly and very well for me. I felt one coming on at an out-of-town conference a couple weeks ago so I drank as much cranberry juice as I could get my hands on and water on top of that. It was gone in half a day.

I cured my only UTI ever with cranberry tablets and tons of water.

I also avoided sugar, spicy food and artificial sweetener as those things are known to make it worse.

unless you commonly get UTI's and have already been to the doctor in the past for treatment please go!!! I tried to avoid going to the health center last year and use over the counter med, water and cranberry juice for a week, i thought that it was going away then my boyfriend came home from work one morning and my lips were blue and i was shivering. my back hurt like hell and i suspected my kidneys were involved but my health center was closed all weekend and i put it off until monday- by then i was so sick that my body was shaking non-stop and i had a fever of over 103... then i was scalded by the entire health center staff for jepordizing my life by not going to the ER all weekend and trying to treat things myself. I realize that UTI's dont always lead to kidney infections, but its not worth the risk... luckily after a few days of antibiotics i felt a million times better and never had to be hospitalized.

I have had problems with them forever, I stopped getting antibiotics because I know you build resistance to them eventually. Now If I think I am getting one I drink a lot of cranberry juice and water and take the AZO. Usually a day later I am ok. That being said, I have woken up in the middle of the night in so much pain that my husband had to take me to the hospital. On those occasions I definatley get the antibiotics.

I had it once and didnt know it was UTI and had the highest fever from it....it was during the craziest of hardest finals in my bachelor year so i sucked it up and kept on going....little did I know I had to be hospitalized for 4 days with an IV taking antibioitics and other stuff at all hours of the night. it was not fun.

hope you get it treated soon.

My doc also told me that when you feel one coming on, if you take vitamin C in mega-doses, it can help favorably change the pH of your urine so that the bacteria have a hard time growing. That, drinking a buttload of water, and cranberry juice (the pure, unsweetened kind, diluted with water).

the same thing happened to me. i got a kidney infection and i was hospitalized for a day. i had a fever of around 105 for a few minutes which can be extremely dangerous!! please go get treated asap!!

Bleh, too much vitamin C means diarrhea. I suppose that's better than the UTI pain though.

Cranberry tea or unsweetned cranberry juice usually helps. I would definitely get antibodics, so it doesn't turn into a kidney or bladder infection.

My bf aunt died from an untreated UTI/kidney infection.
Please go to the health center.
She was only 19.

i've had some major problems with uti's... my doctor sent me to a urologist and she put me on some medicine that is supposed to help. so now i have to take one of this horse pills after i have sex... but so far so good... no uti's since i've started doing this.

uti's definately the worst feeling ever. the anitbiotics work wonders.

So, Friday, I went to the health center (evil) about an hour after I posted, they said the ph level was fine (bullcrap!) and to check back monday. ARG!! Not. getting. any. better. Plus, I hate cranberry juice.

I'm having a bad day.

Pi, by orgasm-like sensation, do you mean the warm feeling in your peepee area right after you pee? haha cus that's what i felt when i got my first UTI ):

antibiotics make it a lot better. i didn't wanna tell my mom about it the second time i got it cus the doctor just kept saying that i was probably having sex (i wasn't), so i tried to tough it out. it didn't work. glad you went to the doctor. they didn't prescribe you anything at all?

Callire, how's your UTI? Is it better now? Mine seems to be gone after a week (well, I'm not sure if I really had one though!) Hope you're feeling better!

shortyxsam, the sensation was more like a pressure in my peepee area / clitoris. It wasn't really bad since it was a PLEASURE...
