I PMed Josh earlier asking him what she might like and he suggested I got her a puzzle. I already went and bought her one to mail with my card tomorrow.
Since she will be there for a couple of months how about if we can send her things that she cand do in her spare time? She is very creative so maybe some art material, canvas, paints, or some kit to do jewerly, etc.?
We should find out more what things she might like...

Also, how about instead of sending one big thing we send a little something each week? I think it will be nice to keep getting things in the mail often.

Personally I don't like plants. I can't keep them alive and pretty and get very upset about it.

Good idea about the sending her something little and cool each week. Maybe we see how much money we get together by Tuesday and then we can work out how to divide it up!

You guys should double-check with her hubby to see what's allowed in the facility and what's not. I'm pretty sure anything like Belgium chocolates is an absolute no-go. It really depends on how strict the center is. I know places like Renfrew will just about toss anything you get; they'll honestly go through the plant soil just to see if there's something tucked away.

I think puzzles would be cool, like those 3-d ones where you have to take out a ring or something. She might like Sodoku too? This might be lame, but pics of latest R&R styles, or pics of members in new R&R jeans? It just adds that personal touch, y'know?

Definitely DO NOT send anything edible, I've been in residential treatment for this before and anything food-related will be confiscated. Some centers also screen for sharp objects (pins, wire, anything that can be used for self-harm) and magazines that may be triggering.

Whoever suggested sending something smaller on a weekly basis was spot-on...when you are in for so long, the time drags by. Just getting something in the mail can make the whole day seem better. Maybe rather than taking up a collection for a big gift, we can just alternate sending her care packages for the 8 (or more) weeks that she is there. I'm definitely sending her one in the next week or so.

One of the coolest things I got when I was IP was a rubix cube...sounds silly, right? But when you're forced to spend so much time sitting around and thinking, it really helped me to deal with strong urges or just distract me.

Please make sure to post updates so we know where to send $$. How about sending her a nice basket of beauty goodies? OPI nail polishes, some exfoliating hand and feet treatments, and some philosophy bath gels? Something to allow her to treat herself extra-special (because part of an ED is definately related to punishing one's self).

Just a thought. I'm in, I just need a paypal addy to send $$ to.

I just called the place she is at to ask if there were any restrictions on what she can get.

The lady told me that other than obvious things like drugs and knives there are no specific restrictions. They do search everything (of course).
