RED LIPPIES!

I'm so obsessed with getting a perfect red lipstick. I have pale skin with yellow undertones, dark brown hair, dark brown eyes. I've found 2 lately that aren't bad: Rimmel lipstick in "Screamer" and Revlon "Scarlet Velvet." But, I want a real scarlet lippie...any recs? Oh, and orange-toned reds make my teeth look revolting.

What are your favorite red lippies?

hmmm one of my favorite questions....(runs off to the lip drawer...)

Chanel Dragon - awesome!!!!
*Chanel Portofino - a sheer red, fav everyday lippie
Laura Mercier Pink Grape - I don't know if they even make this anymore.
Chanel Metal Garnet
Chanel Coco Burgandy - one of the best universal reds EVER
*Lancome Attitude
*Stila Jo

* good everyday reds, the other are reds I love for dressing up

Obviously, I am a HUGE fan of Chanel Lipsticks

For a real red that is flattering on me:

I use vincent longo lip stain in liquid kiss: Vincent Longo Lip & Cheek Gel Stain

And then I top with Clinique Different Lipstick in Angel Red Clinique Different Lipstick

(It is the red lippie that Nicole Kidman wore for Moulin Rouge)

These two together give me perfect red lips.

my lips are so huge I wouldn't dare even try a red lip for fear that Bozo the clown would come asking for his makeup back

Anyone who thinks they are really good at color matching and would let them PM me a photo of myself...I will love you!

^ I'd try....otherwise, I would hit Sephora and make them point out every red lipstick...MAC has one that everyon raves about, but I can't think of the name right now...

you know, I was thinking of Viva Glam, which is a nude I guess, both of the ones you listed have great reviews.

Finding a red is very personal, IMO, so what works for 5,000 other women, might not work for you. Have fun trying to find 'the one' I Love the hunt!

Any other companies you recommend?? How are NARS lippies? It also seems like Victoria's Secret Very Sexy has a lot of shades, and aren't too $$...

me too. My lips are big, and my bottom lip is a different size to my top lip, and my top lip angles down.

I have tried so very many different reds and with the size of my lips, and my skin tone I've never found one that doesn't make me look horrid....and I reeeeeeeeally really really want some red lipstick... can any of you recommend one that goes with big lips and olive/yellow/brown skin?

all this talk just makes me want to set up a meet at a local Sephora...

I am going to go thru some old articles I have and see if I can find the one about matching reds with skin tones

Thanks kenics! You'd be my life long hero if you could find me a red that suits!

Likewise!!!! I just love the idea of a red lippie w/ my dark hair and dark eyes.

did you see Angelina Jolie in The Good Shepherd, her lips were amazing in that, but were more of a brighter, matte red.

I will look thru the old articles, but it may be this weekend, before I get a chance, just to warn you.

I was just about to get some red lipstick/liner at the drug store but then I realized for $15 I can probably have a MAC professional find the perfect color for me. Do their lipsticks last? Also, do you guys use a red liner or just a nude liner?

This thread inspired me to pick up some red lipstick myself. I tried on half the shades at Sephora, and a lot of them were looking too PINK...I wanted something more of a deep red. I ended up going with Nars lipstick in Fire Down Below (which is described on the website as semi matte pure blood red). I've only had it for a few hours but so far I'm loving it. To anyone looking for a red...definitely try a bunch on and decide which shade you like best!

^^I actually JUST bought that and returned it. I went back to Sephora to try the tester but decided it was too dark. I'm having second thoughts now though!!

I hadn't looked thru my old articles yet, but I opened the new InStyle when I got home, and here was a Q & A

Quote:
Q: How do I choose the right shade of red lipstick for my skin tone?

A: A real red with a tiny bit of blue in it suits most people, says make-up artist Moyra Mulholland, who chose American Beauty lipstick in Siren Red to brighten Ashley Judd's lips for a recent charity event. Those with "deeper skin tones should go with warmer tomato reds because bluish hues tend to look purple against dark skin" Mulholland advises. Apply the color with a lip brush for more control and keep makeup on the rest of the face minimal to avoid looking overdone.
