Sephora return policy

A friend of mine gave me some Stila lip gloss as a gift....I immediately opened it and threw away the package, but after using it a couple of times I don't like it...way too sticky for me. I know that it's from Sephora, and I know they take back used items, but will they do so with no receipt and no packaging?

^ They won't take it back (unless you make a stink about it) because there's no way of knowing where and when it's from.

Really? Because I have returned stuff before (unused) without any receipt and that they actually didn't even sell in their store (it was online only products)

I heard they will take it back but give you a store credit if you don't have the receipt.

But you said that you DID use it?

Yeah I think store credit will be what you can get without receipt nor original packaging.

you will probably have an "easier" experience if you return it @ the MAC counter in nordstrom.

Funny this thread came up I was there a couple of days ago and returned an LM blush with no receipt or box and got store credit for it, they really didnt even ask why. So I would give it a try

Wow, they let you return used items? How lax!

I wonder if Canadian stores have the same policy.

It didn't really look used, I might have used it about 3x, but they didn't even look at it. I was like wow!

I disagree. I have returned things there that have been used and without packaging. They have a really good return policy (unless they have changed it recently). They are always suggesting things to try and always tell me... if I don't like it to return it. They might only give store credit though... who cares... you can always find something at Sephora!

The only time they said they wouldn't was when I bought a Jessica Simpson lip gloss (her flavored line) and it broke. I didn't have packaging or receipt. They said they normally don't take back that line b/c you can buy it at walgreen's... but they still let me.

Yea they are great with returns. They usually ask me why and I will say "I didn't like it, it was too sticky, it didn't match my skin" etc. One time they asked if I had used it and when I said yes, the lady was so impressed with my honesty. She said most people try to lie.

Think about it, in cosmetics its important to tell the truth bc if you say you didn't use it then as a return it might get put back on the shelf! Gross.

Thanks guys...I hadn't checked this thread since I posted, but I am going to SF this weekend so I think I will try returning it. The worst that happens is they say no and I just give it to my sis or something. It's like a $20 lipgloss though, so it would be nice to exchange it for something I will actually use.
