i want to buy my first designer handbag ... but need advice

ok so i want to buy a designer handbag ... my first!!

i want to stay in the 500 or so dollar range because i really don't have alot of money to spend on it but the thing is ...

what should i get??? i want something classy but i just have no idea

any advice on what's a great bag or have pics??





i'm also wondering does anyone remember when chanel came out with their classic flap bag in white and it had a applique of a rocket ship and some other decals on it? can you still get that anywhere? i saw it in a magazine ... a year ago maybe ?

I would visit the Purse Forum and really read the blogs and the postings to get a good idea of what will work for you and your lifestyle. A Louis Vuitton speedy is a classic, but not everyone likes the visible logo. Coach makes some wonderful classic bags in your price range,also,and you can check out their various styles.

I suggest Coach, the leather bags will last a lifetime if properly cared for. They just released their new line....check it out....

Bulga!!

You can get the Butterfly bag for around $200 or under now =) The leather is soooooo soft and it's a great everyday shoulder bag.

Personally, I kinda hate both LV and Coach. At least the "signature" lines. The logos are really OTT in my opinion. I don't mind the solid leather bags, I'm sure the leather is nice quality but LVLVLVLVLVLVLVLV doesn't sit well w/ me.

I just bought my first "designer" bag. I got the Marc by Marc Jacobs Tina Turnlock tote. It's amazing, the leather is so nice and it cost around $450 w/ tax. I carry it everyday.

OMG, I completely agree with you Allison!! I was always too afraid to say anything negative about LV or Coach since so many people love them! Although I wouldn't mind monogram on LV as long as it's small, limited edition or uncommon (Stephen bag in matte leather = love )

Yeah No offense to those of who you have it, I have a Gucci monogram bag (vintage) that I carry occasionally, but otherwise I'm not a huge logo person. The Suhali is nice though. So is the Epi. I want a bag in the Epi leather! But, I just really hate the monogram canvas...

Have you ever posted pictures of it? I would love to see it, it sounds nice!

I also am not a fan of LV (at all). I do like Coach, but mainly their leather bags. I do have a black monogram Ali bag but it is black on black monogram so you don't even see it, it was just much lighter than the all leather bag.
I saw this one in the store and loved it.

I like that one too, Heather!....I'm not a big fan of LV either, maybe their Suhali and Damier. But I find their bags are too heavy and stiff. I love Chanel, just can't afford it Pradas are my fav., though some thinks they're too boring looking......

I would also recommend checking out PurseForum to get an idea of what brands suit your particular style. In the $500 range there are not a WHOLE lot of options, but the LV Speedy is a choice, some of the logo Fendis, or any Coach. You could check out discount stores like Filenes Basement, etc because they occasionally have designer bags at a discount.
