Do they have a generic yet for Yaz? I was taking seasonal which made me gain 20 pounds that I am trying so hard to loose. A generic came out for seasonal and was half the price.

omg, even with insurance its THAT much? i have no idea. i use my school's international student insurance and never bought the pill here yet.

Mine is currently $18 a month through my university health center. I think it was about the same with Planned Parenthood. At my undergrad university it was $4 a month for awhile, then they raised it to $6 a month.

Yeah. My ortho-lo is $30 a month with insurance. And has done crazy things to my cycle I would love to go off, but I doubt we would be responsible enough...........not ready for baby #2 just yet....
Yikes, my Cyclessa is $5 a month with insurance...

I would say that it has gone up due to advertising. I see Yaz adds all the time so you know it costs a shitload.

If you listen to the Nazonex add (the one with the bee) you can tell it is Antonio Banderas. That makes that drug even more expensive.

a friend of mine jsut got her ortho for FREE! it's with her own family insurance though, not the university plan

Finally something that's cheaper in Sweden than the US. Sure it depends on where you live but in most counties here the pill or any other bc is free until you turn 20. After that I paid $55 for 13 months of the pill. The IUD which I've got now is free no matter what age you are.

yea I don't think there's a generic for Yaz its too new

There's been a huge shortage of many low-dose pills, so that could explain it.

Don't go generic on BC pills. Many ob/gyns swear they see many more women get pregnant on them than with brand name ones. I can't verify this but I read that generics only need to have 80% or so of the active ingredients. If you're dealing with low-dose pills, that could be bad.

yasmin is considered a 'cosmetic' pill therefore it will always be more expensive than regular pills.

that being said, americans get robbed when it comes to medication. im on diane, which is considered cosmetic, is NOT subsidised by the aus government and isnt covered by insurance. i pay 40 bucks for a 3 month supply. so thats like $30USD for 3 months.

These are not my words but I find that I agree with this...........

"The reason Americans pay so much for drugs is nearly all other countries use price controls at levels that do not adequately fund new drug development. The vast majority of those costs, therefore, are paid by American consumers since we do not have price controls. A new, non-orphan drug costs between $200-400 million to get to market. When you include the fact only one of ten drug ideas make it to market, the average cost for each new marketed drug approaches the $800 million number made popular by the Tufts Institute study."

If there is no incentive for new drug development none will be developed. It sucks but the US foots the bill for the rest of the world as far as drug development goes because the companies know what it can not make in other countries can be made up by charging people in the US more.

Wow...you guys pay a lot for BC. I pay $10 for a 4 month supply....which is double what I used to pay! I am not on Yasmin, though I am on Norinyl which I think is some sort of generic brand.
i pay $10/month for mine
ah yes, good ole drug companies blaming the 'other' countries. when are they just going to admit that they are just greedy? the only reason americans get charged so much is because the drug companies know they can get away with it. its got nothing to do with recouping costs of drug development, they can do that easily without ridiculous prices.
