Brand, which has become known for their simple back pocket design and flattering fits, quickly has become popular with fashion insiders and celebrities alike. J Brand was co-founded by Jeff Rudes in 2004
Jeff Rudes had a background working in the denim industry and founded Paris 2000 in the 1970s. He had also established the denim label, A. Gold. E, with partners Ron Herman and Adriano Goldschmied.
J Brand was officially launched at the Ron Herman Melrose Denim Bar, in the Spring of 2005.
In May 2007, J Brand launched a maternity collection, Mama J.
In July 2007, J Brand launched their collection for girls, J Girl.
In 2008, J Brand launched the Men’s line, J Brand Denim Company, now J Brand Men's.
In 2009, J Brand collaborated with both Henry Duarte and Proenza Schouler, and the brand's styles were featured in Fashion Week Shows.
In early 2010, the Houlihan Cargo pant is launched, spurring an industry wide trend.

912 Low Rise Pencil Leg Jean (in Ink)-The flattering straight-leg jean, in the dark blue Ink wash provides an extremely flattering take on the ever popular skinny jean. The 912 helped launch J Brand to fame.
Love Story- An extremely flattering wide-leg jean which is slim through thighs and flares at the knee.
Houlihan Pant- A skinny twill pant, with cargo pockets and zipper details. Launched in early 2010 and soon seen on celebrities everywhere. Helped to launch the Cargo pant trend.

The J Brand and Topshop collaboration featured 3 different styles, each named after a different New York City Boroughs and neighborhoods: The Brooklyn (12-inch Pencil leg), The Nolita (14-Inch Cigarette leg), and the Manhattan (22-inch Bell leg). The washes were named after notable New York City landmarks, Empire, Skyline, Bowery, and Liberty.
J Brand is one of the only denim brands to establish a eco-friendly line. J Brand's Green Label is made from 100% organic cotton and eco-friendly finishing and processing.
