Press Day Preview: Wrangler Autumn/Winter 2012

wrangler aw12 5 Press Day Preview: Wrangler Autumn/Winter 2012

Here are some photos of the denim from the new Autumn/Winter 2012 Wrangler collection. They didn’t actually feature as much denim as I had hoped for at the press day, they seemed to focus a little more on their other clothing, but the pieces they did have seemed quite nice. I have included more men’s photos (first 6 photos) than women’s (last 3 photos) as the men’s collection seemed a lot bigger than the women’s.

They had a lot of denim jackets and shirts for the ladies, more so than jeans, I didn’t actually see many jeans for the women, maybe one or two pairs, the rest of the collection was mostly about their other clothing and their denim shirting. I think that’s because those are the most popular for the ladies though, I don’t see many ladies in Wrangler jeans, but I do see them in their denim jackets and shirts.

For the guys, they featured an array of everything, quite a few jeans, some denim jackets, some denim shirts and lots of plaid lumberjack style shirts and padded jackets. Judging from the display table, it looks like they went down the route of keeping the American theme that’s behind the brand. Some of the washes on the jeans (especially the pair on the mannequin) looked really pretty. I love the mid blue it has and how detailed they are. So what do you think of the new Wrangler Autumn/Winter 2012 collection?

Rihanna in Wrangler

Rihanna was spotted visiting a friend in Bel Air, California. She wore a Wrangler denim shirt dress. At first I thought she was just wearing a shirt that she just pinned at that back, but it looks like it’s ruched to form to her body better. I still have a thought at the back of my head that does think that this is a custom piece that she altered herself.

I really like that Rihanna has been wearing sneakers so often lately…and not the Marant ones either, actual sneakers. I love that she pairs them with feminine pieces like dresses and high slit skirts. The mix of feminine and masculine, I think, is one that will never go out of style.

Georgia Salpa in Zara & Wrangler

Georgia Salpa was spotted leaving Salon Caramelle at the Sandyford Beacon Plaza in Dublin, Ireland last week. It looks like she picked up some Redken hair products. I think she has gorgeous hair though!

Georgia wore a double denim outfit which consisted of a pair of Zara waxed black jeans and a light blue Wrangler denim shirt. I quite like this combination actually. The first time I saw these jeans was on Hayley Westenra, back in September of last year, and I thought they were beautiful. Pairing them with the light blue denim shirt finishes them off nicely!

Lana Del Rey in Wrangler

Lana Del Rey was pictured leaving the Guns N Roses concert at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California while wearing a pair of Wrangler Jess jeans. She paired them with a cropped Frank Sinatra t-shirt and some Converse.

She really does seem to love Guns N Roses, like Jen mentioned in her post. I think we will be seeing a lot more of Lana on the blog now. She’s very quickly taken over the music world by storm. What do you think of her music? I really like her voice and her songs, but at the same time I find them kind of depressing.

Rihanna in Triple Denim

03.01.2012 Posted in Celebrity Pictures in Designer Jeans by Lorna, Editor

rihanna triple denim Rihanna in Triple Denim

This is by far the strangest way I have seen a triple denim outfit worn, but Rihanna totally rocks it! She was seen leaving her hotel to record a TV show in London, England this morning.

She wore a Wrangler denim shirt with a pair of heavily studded Levi’s cut off shorts and another denim shirt tied around her waist. I’m used to seeing shirts tied around the middle and hanging down the back, but I haven’t ever seen a pair of shorts over the shirt so that the shirt sticks out the bottom of the shorts… It’s definitely a weird outfit to get my head around, and of course it wouldn’t be a Rihanna ensemble without the knee high leather boots! I love it that she adores denim so much!

Wrangler’s 7 Icons

12.14.2011 Posted in Denim Brands by Lorna, Editor

Wrangler 7icons jean front Wranglers 7 Icons

Wrangler is a jeanswear legend. The story starts in the early 20th Century with denim workwear manufacturer, Hudson Overall Company. The brand was founded in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1904, Hudson’s became Blue Bell in 1917, and brought the Wrangler brand to life in the 1940s.

Unlike other original American icons, the recipe for making Wrangler’s famous denim is not hidden away in a North Carolina vault. The formula can be found on the jeans themselves… dating from 1947’s 13MWZ to the latest contemporary cut. It comes down to this: seven unique details!

1. Flat rivets

Won’t scratch your saddle

Using rivets to secure denim jeans at key points of strain helps to keep them in one piece. But the method has always caused trouble, scratching furniture, car seats and motorbike saddles. Wrangler’s smooth flat copper rivets “won’t scratch” – just as early adverts promised. They give jeans a refined aspect: more comfortable for you and whatever you rub up against.

2. Watch pocket

Keeps your coins trapped

In its earliest days, Wrangler commissioned expert tailor Ben Lichtenstein to create a range of shirts, jeans and jackets. One of “Rodeo Ben’s” initiatives was the deeper watch pocket with its curved, ergonomic shape. The pocket’s high opening along the waistband is sealed naturally by a belt. So anything you keep in there – key, coins, gum – is securely shut away.

3. Felled seams

For a more comfortable ride

Folded ridges of fabric at the seams are characteristic of jeanswear, but Wrangler makes this feature functional. By creating a downward-facing lip in the yoke above high back pockets, your wallet is held firmly inside – vital if your free-time leans to the extreme. Fully felled outseams are a signature of most Wrangler jeans. Because the seam sits flat against your inside leg, they’re more comfortable when riding. You’ll appreciate this next time you straddle your modern-day horse: a motorcycle.

4. Belt loops

Hold jeans to the waist

The 11 MW, the first Wrangler jeans, debuted in 1947 with seven belt loops. If you’ve ever worn jeans with five loops, you’ll know that the waist band slips free. Six improves things a little. But thread a Wrangler premium grade leather belt through seven belt loops and those jeans are locked to your body.

5. “W” stitching

Back pockets reinforced

Introduced in 1947, the “W” stitch is cattle-branding for jeans. Wrangler’s carry two “W’s”, embroidered onto each back pocket: initials that read “Western Wear”. Back pockets also have a tone-on-tone horizontal stitch for a second layer of fabric, reinforcing pockets from the inside. Wrangler jeans: strength throughout.

6. The patch

A unique symbol of quality

The right back pocket of Wrangler jeans has carried a patch since 1947. Initially this read “Blue Bell’s Wrangler Authentic Western Jeans”. Today, the name Wrangler stands alone, single-handedly representing tough, top-quality, authentic denim garments.

7. Rope logo

Tough outdoor denim since 1947

Wrangler’s “rope” signature is one of the ultimate icons of jeanswear. The rope was a sign of action: Wrangler jeans are designed for the outdoors, for freedom of movement, for surviving on your wits. The rope says, Wrangler is the original American outdoor denim brand.

Alessandro Vigano, creative director, Wrangler EMEA says “The seven icons can still be found on all our jeans. They have purpose. They work. And they make Wrangler jeans unique.” I think it’s really cool that all of this work goes into a pair of Wrangler jeans! What do you think? All of the images are in the gallery below in order of the 7 icons as well.
