Since hearing about the relaunch of Ksubi, I could not have been more excited to try out the new pieces that they had to offer. Ksubi has always been a brand that has gone against the grain and that is just what I love about them. For my first pair from their new line, I wanted to go for a different cut than what I was used to, so I chose their Hi & Wasted cut, but kept true to my usual black wash and went for the Vintage Black.
I have to say, the cut is pretty amazing and more than what I initially expected from the brand. They are cut higher which lends to a more unisex touch, so if you are on the skinnier side like me, these are a great choice for you. I went for my usual size 27 in the brand and we all know the brand tends to run on the smaller side. But being higher cut, I thought a 27 would work and they did! They are fitted throughout the hips and leg, but if you want a more slouchy cut, I say sizing up would work just great.
The wash is a worn black, one that looks as though they are a naturally worn in pair that were once jet black. It’s a simple wash that can be paired with any piece in your closet. The hand to the fabric was a huge surprise to me. With the previous styles I have tried, they have mostly been on the stiffer side being that they are new denim for the lack of a better term. But these feel as though you wore them down yourself and washed them many times.
Though soft, they do hold their shape and I actually noticed that they hold it exceptionally well. I’ve worn them for days straight and the knees haven’t bagged like most of my jeans have and the waist hasn’t stretched, causing me to constantly pull them up. These are details that I (and I am sure all of you) definitely look for in jeans.
These do have the signature Ksubi details such as the crosses at the back pocket and behind the left thigh. Although the seam stitching at the outer seam is different with these, so this particular cut doesn’t have that detail, but they have standard stitching that goes down the inseam. This gives them a more classic touch to go along with the cut.
Overall, they definitely are a pair that keeps me loving the brand and has me wanting more from them, especially the distressed styles and jackets. Whether you are a slim guy looking for a pair that isn’t baggy or a woman just looking for a great worn in black pair, these are definitely a style to try out. The return of Ksubi continues to reinvent its roots and this time they have dabbled back into the graffiti and self-repaired punk vibe. You can see new styles from overalls, graffiti for women and classic sun-bleached for men, to leather pants and even jackets emblazoned with flames. Along with the new denim, they have knits that are distressed and given the ransom note treatment with the graphics.
This is definitely a collection that had me smiling because the soul of the brand is there, but it’s fresh from the new underlying California vibe. I definitely get more hopeful to see what they will continue to come out with and how much more they will push the boundaries. I can’t wait to see who we catch out in the safety pinned jackets and those printed overalls. You can check out the new collection below. Which are your favorite pieces from the line?
White jeans are a staple for the warmer months and the new Jane Skinny in Deep White by Ksubi are a great update from the normally classic clean style with distressed detailing. It takes the classic mostly preppy piece to casual territory that made me choose them this week to style for my ‘Weekend Look.’
As I prefer easier weekends, I wanted to go for something that was very casual. So I paired the jeans with these denim Golden Goose sneakers because I find the contrast of the blue and worn in details of them to be a nice complement against the stark wash of the jeans. I then chose a shirt that was more on the boxier side to add to the ease sense and the Are You Am I Lish t shirt is just that. It is perfect to carry on the California skate vibe that also came to mind when putting this together.
Adding more fuel to the fire of casualness, a backpack by Rebecca Minkoff for its classic cut and color that just works so well against the mostly all white look. Then a Cali look isn’t done without some sunglasses, especially with the excessive sun we have been having. These OAMC sunglasses are a great cut to go along with the look, whether you choose to stroll the streets of the city or walk the boardwalk. So, how many of you are looking to take it easy this weekend and wear a look like this?
As of recently, trends never die. They just hibernate for a bit and overalls are the exception to this. As the weather is warming up and festival season still happening, I am sure we will be seeing them reemerge again in different takes, shorts in particular.
Ksubi has always been one of the brands that had different takes on the overalls since they first started. Remember those skinny styles? Well they didn’t leave it there, they are taking the style on again in a shorter version just in time for the warmer weather. In two different washes, the style is ready for you to pair with your favorite tanks for the endless pool parties or just a casual day around town. Which one are you excited to try?
