When I saw the Free People Jolene Flares in White Indigo Stripe, I instantly wanted to do my ‘Weekend Look’ based around them. I love the vibe that they can give a look and they are an out of the box style compared to what I usually go for.
I decided to stick with the vintage vibe of the jeans, kind of like a modern Janis Joplin when it came to styling them. I started by pairing the jeans with a Motley Crue band tee as they help carry that just thrown on look that Janis is known for. I didn’t want to choose a pair of heels and opted to go for a simple pair of white slip-on Vans. Then to finish the look off, I didn’t want to go for the fur coats or fluid shawls that she is known for either, so I brought it into this time with a T by Alexander Wang trench coat. It streamlines the look without taking away from the inspiration, which I like.
What are your thoughts on striped flares and how many of you are willing to don them styled like this?
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Ashley in these shorts, we used to see her in them quite frequently. One of the things I really like about these is the fraying and distressing in the front, I like how it curves up slightly and flatters the legs.
Salma Hayek and her daughter were photographed while out doing some shopping together in Beverly Hills. Salma had a very 70s look with her wide leg Free People D Ring Chambray overalls in Bee Wash, which she belted and paired with a brown hat and platforms.
Overalls aren’t normally a look I’d expect to see Salma in, since her style tends to be very feminine. I do like the addition of the belt though, I think it adds a lot of definition on the waist and keeps this look more tailored.
Model Alena Blohm channels the season’s nostalgic ÔÇÿ70s spirit in the new Free People June Look Book, entitled ‘In The Groove’.
There’s some gorgeous flared denim pieces here as well as some pretty brown corduroy, so it really does have a retro vibe, but in a modern way. You can check out some of the images in the gallery below and you can shop the pieces online at Free People.
