Balmain
Rihanna in Balmain Homme Jeans
Rihanna was seen leaving her hotel to run errands in New York City yesterday while still sporting her cropped hair. I have noticed a lot of people chopping off their locks over the past few months, Anne Hathaway, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna just to name a few. I wonder if they are going to bring the short pixie look back in style?
Rihanna chose to wear her Balmain Homme jeans again with black heels and a bomber jacket. I haven’t really been fond of her style as of late, but I quite like this one. It’s toned down and simple and everything goes. It’s actually nice to see the wash of these Balmain jeans clearly as well, you can see the dirt and rust details grounded into the denim.

Balmain Spring 2013
For the Spring 2013 Balmain season, it was very exaggerated. I mean, exaggerated shoulders, pants, details, and eyelets. Yes, Olivier Rousteing gave a new meaning to the perforation trend. The constancy to sway the aesthetic from its previous designer, Christophe Decarnin, was also a prominent this season. Though moving forward with his own aesthetic, the soul of the fashion house is still there.
I cannot say that I am the biggest fan of the collection this season. There were some pieces that I found really amazing, like a few of the dresses (pretty much all of them), shirts (embroidered one), skirts (Looks 12, 17, 37), sweater (Look 21) and matador jacket (Look 9). But overall, I found it very 80′s/90′s, which was the inspiration of course, but it was too strong and was borderline dated. All I was thinking was Christina Applegate in Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead when I was looking through it. One thing that will always be a positive is the embroidered detailing. I will always be a fan of Olivier’s embroidery. Click through the collection below.
Styling Balmain Olive Skinny Jeans for SSENSE
SSENSE asked us to style a pair of jeans of our choice and I chose these green Balmain suede jeans. I paired them with a Paul Smith Bubble Knit sweater, Pierre Balmain T Shirt, Dsquared2 Belt and Mugler Monk Shoes.
I decided to go for a more mature, but not serious, look when I was thinking about putting this together. I still wanted to keep it alive with the color combinations. I chose this sweater for the colors on it. I thought it would work well with the green in the jeans. For the styling of this look, I say cuff the jeans. Wearing the jeans cuffed to above the ankles will also keep you from looking too stern as well as liven up the look a bit more. I also think that the cuff will give the look a cleaner line when worn cuffed with these shoes. I think when a look has a lot of color involved guys tend to be very hesitant to try it. But when you keep the colors muted and subtle it can work. You can click here to purchase this whole look at SSENSE.
