We got the chance to do an interview with the new brand, Mother Denim. We introduced you to the brand a little while ago with a post on DenimBlog and now we can share with you a lot more about them. Mother Denim reveals their inspirations, why they chose the name, what makes the perfect fitting jeans, what their fabric and jeans are like and more! Keep on reading to find out more about the new up and coming brand! There are also photos from their current Look Book included in the gallery, check them out!
DB: What inspired you the most when creating your brand?
I felt like no other brands were making the kind of jeans that I love and that originally sparked the denim craze anymore…
DB: I am assuming you named the brand Mother Denim because you consider it to be the Mother of all denim brands?
No – I mean we are – But mother, to me, has a feeling of power, like bad mother f****r, I want women to wear my jeans and feel that awesome.
DB: Do you have a favorite cut you have designed?
Many, the Drama flare was really fun this past season…
DB: How many pairs of jeans do you own yourself?
Many many jeans…never counted. But you should always have at least 2 favorites at all times.
DB: Can you tell us more about the designs in your collection?
I had done a long denim skirt years ago that I loved… Now with some of the denim we’ve made in collaboration with the mills in Japan, I revisited an ankle length skirt that is amazing… And our basics are amazing, I think a lot of basics have been neglected in the past few years – .ie the boyfriend – come on! Jeans are ultimately about looking sexy…
DB: What is the best feature of Mother Denim jeans (fit, wash, pockets etc)?
We worked with our favorite mills to make our own denim that feesl like cashmere, really transforming denim from a workwear material into a true luxury fabric. Our washes are full of color, moving from straight vintage to bright blues, blown out light blues and really saturated rinses… It was funny, I always thought that I was over back pocket embroideries, but ended up with a really tough mother pocket…
DB: We all love denim here at DenimBlog, but what is it that makes denim so important to you?
The flexibility of it. You can take one denim and work it in so many directions, and each one will tell a story of who the person is – it truly has a personality in that regard. Unlike a knit, for example, where it kind of is what it is…or a wool trouser?
DB: What previous experience have you both had with denim?
I was the Creative Director for 7 For All Mankind and Lela was the Director of Sales for Citizens of Humanity… so we do have a little experience…
DB: What makes the perfect fitting jeans in your experience?
Jeans that make your legs look long and your ass look great…
DB: Can you tell us a bit more about your brand?
We are really stripping down all of the peripheral elements… All of the typical jeans-y things, tea stained labels, vintage hardware… Our website doesn’t have any pictures of back pockets and thread… Our label is patent leather and that’s it. It’s really all about the jeans for us, get rid of all the junk…
DB: What makes your brand so different from the others out there?
We have the Perspective, all of our years of experience, what works and what doesn’t and making jeans that others can’t…
DB: Lastly is there anything else you would like to add that we haven’t asked you?
I’d like to mention that our brand isn’t about redoing vintage, there are washed jeans here, sure… But our mission is to make great jeans that feel fresh and exciting… new classics!
Halle Berry took her daughter Nahla on a shopping trip in Los Angeles, California yesterday. Nahla looks like she can be a little rascal with the faces she pulls at the paps, ha ha! Halle was wearing a pair of Rich & Skinny Moto Crop jeans in Black Fade with flip flops and a casual long sleeved t-shirt. These are definitely not the most flattering pants on Halle though, they make her look a bit short and wider when she’s not. She’s much better suited to skinny jeans.
Halle recently told the U.K Daily Mirror newspaper about how much Nahla means to her. She said “I have a greater purpose for being here. I love making movies but I would give it all up to be with my daughter if I had to because she’s the love of my life. Every choice I make now, and that includes who I choose to spend personal time with as a partner, is not just about me anymore, it’s about what’s best for her.” I’m really pleased Halle is so happy and Nahla is her priority. Buy these jeans at Rich & Skinny for $237.
Oh how I still love these jeans! Nicky Hilton was spotted by the paps as she was getting her car washed in West Hollywood, California a couple of days ago. Nicky was wearing her amazing James Jeans Moto skinny jeans in Black Out again for the day. When I first saw these jeans on Nicky, I fell completely in love with them. I love all of the details, especially the amount of stitching on the knee.
Are any of you fans of Nicky’s jewellery line? I haven’t bought anything from it but I think she has quite a talent when it comes to designing. I’ve always loved the accessories she wears when it comes to her every day outfits. Like this one, the leopard print scarf really adds a spark to the all black outfit. You can buy these James Jeans Moto jeans for $184 at Revolve Clothing.
Zac Efron was seen running some errands in Los Angeles, California yesterday. I know there are rumours going around that Zac might be dating Rumer Willis and there are other rumours saying he is back with Vanessa because he was seen arriving at her house a couple of days ago. I guess we will wait and see what happens. It would be nice if he and Vanessa did get back together though.
Zac was sporting his new hair cut which he got for his new movie ‘The Lucky One’ with his Balmain Homme pants. Zac also wore The T by Joe’s Maxx Henley top. He really seems to be fond of these pants as we have blogged him wearing them a lot in the past few months. They seem to be the only pair we catch him wearing. What do you think of Zac’s haircut?
