Advertising screwing with peoples minds and womens bodies
Here is a pretty interesting video about advertising and the portrayal of women. It has some good points and some pretty solid examples to back up her points. What do you think about the video, is it a bit too over the top, or something that should be focused on?
Poverty is real
UPDATE: We used Kiva to find a group of people in the Dominican Republic who are starting a clothing store. Hopefully our loan will help them out.
So its Blog Action Day today. Basically a day to focus the web on important issues. I just wanted to drop a quick post as a reminder that poverty is a very real thing. If you make more than $40k a year you are wealthier than 95% of the world!
So today when you enjoy your multiple room house, with air conditioning, and you get in your car to drive eat with friends at a restaurant, there are people who don’t have any of those things. Who live in a one room house, without air condition, without a car, and without the ability to buy food at a restaurant.
So for today, DenimBlog will take the small steps to fight poverty by
- giving $100 towards our non-profit EffectiveProjects.org (we are saving up money to dig wells in Haiti)
- invest $100 towards the poor with Kiva.org (a great way to foster businesses and get people out of poverty)
We would love your help as well. Please click chip in to quickly send a donation by PayPal to help us dig wells in the third world.
Diesel Jeans + Adidas Team up

Diesel Jeans and Adidas have teamed up to create a new denim line called Adidas Originals Denim by Diesel. The Adidas logo has been added to the jeans in numerous places such as the coin pocket, rivets, on the sides and also inside the jeans.

They have a website at http://diesel.adidas.com and the new jeans will be available exclusively at Adidas Originals stores worldwide. Retail prices range from 160 euros, or approximately $237 at current exchange, for the women’s jeans, up to 210 euros, or $311 for men’s styles.

Seven for all Mankind Jeans vs. Rock and Republic

So what say you, is Seven for all Mankind still on top, or has Rock and Republic come along and become more of a favorite for you?
Feel free to hit up this post on HF to discuss it even more.
Shopping in NYC

Shopping in NYC
This is our first of hopefully a number of travel shopping posts. We’ll start with the Big Apple.
BLM14 our resident NYC shopping and denim expert recommends the following
Dont buy any clothes here on the street unless it’s from a yard sale, they’re almost exclusively fake.
For shopping, you can go ANYWHERE pretty much but there are two major concentrations of shopping and they’re both REALLY big. The area bounded by the bowery on the east, broadway on the west, 14th street on the north, and canal on the south houses a HUMUNGOUS amount of shopping: Barneys, 3 diesel stores, j lidheberg, a levis store, lounge, atrium, blue and green, cloak, replay, evisu, bape, APC, puma, bloomingdales, gstar, and about a thousand other places are all within that area.
Fifth avenue from about 42nd to 59th as well as lexington in the same area and all the sidestreets are full of all kinds of really upscale shopping – Dior, D&G, Escada, Saks 5th avenue, barneys, bloomingdales, and all kinds of super expensive little boutiques are in there.
There’s lots more but if you’re here for a weekend I would just focus on the soho area. Check the superfuture map – it’s a little out of date but it shows you the general area involved and how much shopping there is:
superfuture :: new york :: soho :: map
superfuture :: new york :: nolita :: map
superfuture :: new york :: lower east :: map
superfuture :: new york :: west village :: mapThere’s even some stuff that’s not on those maps too…
EDIT: We recently came across this excellent google map of a bunch of places to shop.
