The Levi’s Effect

The Levi's Effect

Authentic, one of a kind, iconic, inspirational, classic and heritage are the most used words to describe a true blue pair of Levi’s. They are the label that holds the basis of what fashion is today. There is no brand that has more prominence than they do. Never going out of style, the brand has taken a huge resurgence over recent times with labels taking their vintage styles and making them their own. From the wonder of the story behind them to just finding that one pair that has that magical fit. As the saying goes, “There is nothing like finding that perfect pair of vintage Levi’s.” From the runways of Paris to the contemporary market, they lent inspiration countless times and see how they became the base of design recently.

Vetements Levi's

Not only are they essentials to the Normcore trend, or by other terms like Mom jeans or Dad jeans, but they have hit the runways of Paris as well. Demna Gvasalia of Vetements has made them core styles to his line. Given his signature reconstructed treatment, the styles are original with the play of shadow pockets. Whether they be moved to the side or omitted all together to show the play on symmetry in the back, these jeans have become a must have for any fashion elite.

OFF-WHITE Levi's

Vetements is not the only one on the high fashion circuit that dabbled with the brand, but there is also OFF-WHITE who plays with reconstruction. For the Fall 2016 collection, designer Virgil Abloh has taken selvedged pieces and worked them either with zips and embroidery to painting the jackets to bring the industrial inspiration to life.

REDONE Levi's

But it is not just all high fashion that has gotten inspiration from the originals either. There is RE/DONE who has taken vintage Levi’s that have become staples in everyone’s closets and tailored them to modern fits for us already. But it is not just tailoring with them as they have shown that there is no limits as to where you can take a pair of vintage Levi’s. From their popular Straight Skinny and Relaxed Straight cuts, they have broadened the spectrum of what was by making styles like their Elsa and new Wide Leg. They also have a men’s line as well with only plans of taking their idea further for the future.

Commandments Levi's

Another label that is slowly gaining momentum with their idea of taking old Levi’s and making modern fresh takes, is Commandments. The new Japanese label carries the same concept of taking what was, exclusivity and one of kind to a place that has a bit more edge with the contemporary market. Sticking the true 501s, they have slimmed down the style and added zippers at the inseams to broaden the spectrum even further.

There are brands that have gotten inspiration and released styles that carry a similar attitude, but none carry that exact attitude of the Originals, the 501s by Levi’s. Whether it be vintage styles that you have been scouring from eBay finds and at stores like Urban Oufitters and Nasty Gal to ones that have been given the “Modern Vintage” spin by RE/DONE, they are true classics and have tested time to only continue to inspire.
