Denim Review: Citizens of Humanity Rocket Skinny Jeans in Byron Bay

My denim review this week is on the Citizens of Humanity Rocket Skinny Jeans in Byron Bay. I have one of the original Rockets in the Leatherette Black so I knew that I loved the style, but wanted to try them out in a denim wash as well so I could see just how the fit was and how they felt.

As you probably know by now, the Rocket is a high rise super skinny jean and when I say high rise, I mean it has about a 9.5 – 10 inch rise. The inseam is around 30 inches and the leg opening is 10 inches, so they are a very standard high rise skinny jean. I took these in my usual size of 27 and they fit me perfectly when I put them on, but they did stretch out a bit with some wear. I’ve worn them about 3 times already and they have definitely got bigger, so I recommend if you are between sizes, you might want to take your smaller size and wear them around. The inseam was a little long for me too so that’s why I tucked them inside, as you can see in the photos.

In terms of fit, I really like how these are from the front. I’m not usually very good with higher rise jeans as I have shorter legs, but I actually found these to be really flattering and the best thing is that you don’t have to worry about muffin top or showing your butt, the rise is the perfect height to hide all of that! With that in mind, these make great jeans to wear under t-shirts and tighter sweaters as you wont have any muffin. From the back, the pockets are positioned a little higher than I like, so they aren’t as flattering on the butt as they could be, however I seem to find this issue with every single high rise jean I have ever tried. The back pockets always seem to be higher on them. I’m not saying they are unflattering at this height, but I would prefer them a little lower so they could be in the best place for me. That’s my only negative with these jeans, I like everything else about them including the fabric as it’s really soft and comfortable too. They don’t feel like jeggings, but they don’t feel like skinny jeans either, so they have a bit of a weight to them and are very easy to wear. I have found myself reaching for them when I just want something comfortable to run some errands.

The Byron Bay wash is actually gorgeous in person! It seems a bit lighter than it appears on Shopbop, but the fading on the thighs, knees and hips is great and so is the whiskering around the lap area. They have a lot of dimension and character to them and actually feel like a naturally worn in pair as the fades are in areas which wear out quite quickly. The colour works really well with lighter blue denim which is why I decided to pair them with my denim shirt, but I think these could go with a lot of other pieces! Have any of you tried these jeans? You can buy them online at

  1. I actually have a few pairs of the Rocket and can say I think the fit honestly varies between washes. The Manic pair I bought actually fit about half a size smaller than my other pairs, which was a surprise! Gorgeous jeans though- great post!
