Denim Review: Citizens of Humanity Racer in Black Diamond

My next review will be on the Citizens of Humanity Racer in Black Diamond. Lorna reviewed the coated Rubia wash, but once I put them on I noticed that there are a few differences (other than coating and color) in these compared to those.

I just cannot get enough of black jeans and I am constantly searching for the right solid, clean black pair. So when I saw that Citizens released these, they instantly went on my list to try. I have tried their Avedon before, but these, I have to say, are more comfortable in my opinion. The Avedons though are still on the list as one of my top favorite blacks that I have ever owned.

I bought these in my usual size 27 and like the Avedon, they look small flat, but stretch to fit without any discomfort. They also hold you in very well, which is a signature with Citizens. They are so comfortable and they will always make you feel great when wearing them. The inseam of them is perfect. Being around 30″ they are a great length on me with slight bunching and I’m still able to cuff cleanly without bulk.

Compared to the Avedon, these have a wider leg-opening, but just slightly. I would say that they are about an inch and a half wider. Which I think is great proportion wise and gives an easy vibe to them overall. The rise is also lower on these, around 7.5″. Since I wear my jeans on the tighter side and around mid-hip, I prefer a lower rise for comfort reasons. With a longer rise and tight jeans, walking can be difficult for me.

Lorna stated that coated version has some weight to them, which is the most noticeable difference between the two pairs. These are very lightweight and can easily be worn all day. The fabric is also very soft and feels great against the skin, almost like silk.

Overall, there is really nothing that I can find wrong with these. They fit really well and they have the tonal black lining along with a clean pitch black wash that I have been looking for. The only pair that will probably surpass these is if Citizens redesigned them with the cut of the Avedons in the legs. What do you readers think of them? Are you guys also a fan of them?
