How to Dress For the Winter: Men’s Edition

I got the assignment to style the looks for the winter months for both coasts (NY/LA) for the men. For both looks, I chose the Nudie Grim Tim in White Knee (buy here) to revolve my looks around. Although they are the same jeans, the looks are completely different and I think they embody both coasts perfectly.

New York/East Coast:

For the New York/East Coast look, I played with color, texture, and of course major layering. The style in New York is also more smart and many times serious. By adding this bright red structured coat by Giuliano Fujiwara, I thought, would still keep the look clean but liven it up with the color. With the jacket being so bright, I wanted to keep everything minimal, with a denim shirt by Daniele Alessandrini, scarf by Horiyoshi the Third, hat by Brixton, belt by Rag & Bone, and loafers by Burberry. I find that the accessories also help pull the look together without having the outfit look too severe because it is never fun when you look serious.

California/West Coast:

In California, well Southern California to be honest, we don’t really understand cold compared to the rest of the country. We just incorporate in an additional layer such as a jacket (Topman) and/or scarf to our usual t shirt (Ksubi) and jeans looks. Even though the style usually does venture into the more casual side, I wanted to smarten it up with the Modern Vice Jodphur boots. I also find that the fit of these jeans suit more clean shoes such as loafers and boots compared to a pair of sneakers. Regardless of the title of the looks, these can be interchanged and worn on either coasts. It is just a matter of taste. So which of these do you prefer more?
