6 Essential Fashion Websites You Should Be Reading

The internet is a never ending black hole of websites which makes it difficult at times to find solid daily reads. An extreme case of this black hole madness would be fashion websites. Everyone has a blog, everyone is covering fashion week, and everyone is featuring trends. How do you pick out the good from the over saturated? I’m not a fashion critic, but what I can do is give you sites that I find helpful and enjoyable for my daily reads. I’m sure you’ve heard of some of them which means they are well known for a reason. Enjoy and feel free to share your daily reads as well!

Refinery29

Yes the fashion epicenter is New York, but what if you want to know what’s going on near your town? The thing that sets Refinery29 apart? They have the happenings by city: LA, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Miami. If any of these aren’t near your city, one of them will at least be in the same part of the states as your city to keep you up to date on everything fashion and beauty oriented. You can also read “Everywhere” (which is where it takes you when you visit the site) giving you information on fashion for every city, state, and person. Refinery29 has a lighter feel to it, making jokes and having entertaining articles to give you a little break from the seriousness of fashion. On top of keeping you updated on everything fashion and beauty, they also have deals in their “Reserve” section giving you discounts on tons of fab companies. An all around good read with tons of new updates every day.

Lookbook.nu

If you don’t have a Lookbook.nu account then you’re looking AT Lookbook.nu. This site is simple: it’s everyday people taking photos of what they’re wearing. The awesome thing about Lookbook is you don’t need an account to just browse the site for some good ol’ fashion inspiration. However, if you have an account you can “hype” photos (which means you like them), comment on photos, upload photos and participate in forums. What I love about Lookbook is some people don’t even have blogs… they just post for fun. If Lookbook is a little too edgy or “youthful” for you, you can always head over to Chictopia, which is a more preppy and chic version of Lookbook.nu.

Nylon TV

Of course the Nylon blog is awesome, the magazine itself is phenomenal, but my favorite feature about their site? NylonTV. During fashion week I don’t look at any other site but NylonTV as they go back stage, interview designers, show a montage of the collection, and even get coverage of the makeup and hair for the show. Their segments are only 30 seconds – 1 minute long (give or take) so you get just enough info and eye candy to give you a feel for the show and the designer. I find this so much more fulfilling than sifting through millions of photos of every…single…show. They don’t show every single designer’s show, but they show a good variety. Not fashion week? NylonTV has great videos of new artists they like, cover shoots for their magazine, celebrity shoots and more. Check out NylonTV and the Nylon blog (Nylon also has a great iPad app)!

NotCouture.com

NotCouture is a part of the Notcot family (see notcot.com, notcot.org, liqurious.com etc.), specifically specializing in fashion. The site is strictly photos with a brief description, all submitted by everyday readers. The photos range from new collections, technology x fashion collaborations, accessories…you name it. “NOTCOT is a visual filtration of ideas + aesthetics + amusements. NOTCOT’s two sites have become the daily sources of inspiration for creatives everywhere,  fighting the good fight against “creative block” since 2005 with visually stunning imagery, the latest in international trends, and a passion for all things well designed.” as said by the site itself.

Style.com

If you’re ever wondering what Alexander Wang has in store for you this Spring or simply what the hottest fashion party was last night…Style.com is for you. Whether you want to browse on your iPad or at your computer, Style.com has every runway show (past seasons and present) listed on their site as well as models, fashion parties, Look of the day, beauty and accessories. It is fashion overload at its best and you will not miss ANYTHING with this site.

WhoWhatWear

WhoWhatWear is designed for every single person that has as little as an ounce of love for fashion. Created by Katherine Power and Hilary Kerr, Who What Wear breaks down fashion and trends for you so you can partake yourself. They also feature celebs wearing trends, look of the day and “Style Stalker”, an article dedicated to stalking people with great style. I think the overall appeal of WhoWhatWear is the collage-like posts that they create, making it visually appealing and easy to understand. Keep up with the trends and more at Who What Wear.

XO,

Chanelle
