Celebs in Denim: Christie Brinkley in J Brand

christie-brinkley-jbrand.jpg

On Sunday, model Christie Brinkley wore a pair of J Brand The Doll jeans in Indigo while launching “National Family Fitness Day” with the Boys & Girls Club.  She looks like she is having fun playing some version of Dance Dance Revolution with the kids!  And I lovvvve the way the jeans are so fit and flare…those are on my to-buy list!

Interview with Paige Adams-Geller of Paige Premium Denim!

Paige Adams-Geller (middle, above) with models wearing Paige Premium Denim

Recently we got the opportunity to talk to Paige Adams-Geller, creator of Paige Premium Denim and author of the book Your Perfect Fit.

DenimBlog: Tell us, what is Paige’s perfect Paige Premium jean?

Paige: That all depends on your body type and your lifestyle!  We have a perfect fit for almost any woman, so it’s a matter of finding the perfect style for your needs.  But I guarantee there is a perfect fit for every body!

DenimBlog:  For those who haven’t read the book, can anyone wear skinny jeans?

Paige:  Just about anyone can wear skinny jeans when paired with the right tops and accessories.  For a girl with more curves, skinnies look great paired with a longer tunic that hits just below the widest part of the thigh and a pair of heels.  It’s a very slimming look!  If you have an extra narrow physique, pair your skinnies with a camisole and a blazer to add some shape and a pair of cute ballet flats.

DenimBlog: What do you see as the next big trend in denim?

Paige: What you will see a lot of right now are retro shapes like ultra-high waists and super belled legs.

DenimBlog:  Are skinny jeans and wide legs going to stick around for awhile?

Paige: Because both styles can be super flattering, I think they haven’t seen their final days just yet.  But we will probably see some new takes on the shapes like a more cropped skinny and high waist wide leg.

DenimBlog: Tell us about your history working as a Fit model.  What did you learn from that experience?

Paige: I went into fit modeling because the lifestyle surrounding runway and print modeling was very unhealthy for me.  I battled anorexia and found that fit modeling, which required me to stay a healthy size 6, helped me pull myself out of those destructive habits.  I also found that being involved in the design process with the labels I worked for was far more fulfilling for me.  I became a fit expert and after years of consulting for the top denim brands, I decided that I should take what I had learned and what I was doing for these other designers and apply it to my own line.

DenimBlog: Our readers love seeing photos of celebrities in denim, like when we posted about Britney Spears going for a shopping spree in your boutique.  What celebs have you worked with recently and fit in a pair of Paige’s?

Paige: Most recently, Mena Suvari, Minka Kelly and Whitney Port. We do have a fun regulars though! Jessica Alba, Halle Berry, Rachel Bilson, Eva Longoria and Sophia Bush regularly request our new styles.

DenimBlog:  What is the most popular styles of Paige jeans right now?

Paige:  The most popular new style is probably our Roxbury Crop.  It’s a great jean because its narrow cropped leg is a staple for any summer look and it will take you into Fall because it tucks perfectly into boots!  And the Laurel Canyon, which is my basic low-rise boot cut is still my #1 style since day one of the brand.  It’s the classic everyday jean that looks good on just about anybody.

DenimBlog:  Do you ever see Paige branching out into shoes and bags, as some of the other denim companies have done such as True Religion and 7 for All Mankind?  Why or why not?

Paige:  I would love to eventually design other products that have the Paige sensibility, but right now we are concentrating on our denim and the launch of my new better line called Paige Black Label

DenimBlog:  Tell us about the Paige Black Label brand we’ve been hearing rumors about!  And when will it be available?

Paige:  Paige Black Label consists of mostly classic and higher fashion pieces for the woman who embraces her power and sensuality.  The line boasts everything from a classic wool trouser to eyelet leather bolero jackets and a-symmetrical dresses.  Vests, high-waisted skirts and skinny slacks will also grace the line for Fall.  The line will be available in stores by the beginning of August.

DenimBlog:  Can’t wait to see it!  Thanks so much for the interview Paige!

Celebs in Denim: Rachel Bilson in Siwy

Rachel Bilson was spotted shopping at Glendale Galleria mall wearing a pair of Siwy Hannah Crop Jeans.  I admittedly have never tried Siwy’s but these look great on her and now I might just have to pick up a pair!

One more attempt to stop the fakes

rings.jpg

From a blog on Fashionista.com:

At least one company’s so annoyed with getting knocked off that they’re taking serious anti-counterfeiting measures -

Rather than relying on police cracking down on fakes, Loro Piana’s decided to make their goods un-fakeable.

They’ve created their own metal ring bearing the Loro Piana logo that’ll be sewn into each of their cashmere products. The rings will be engraved with an identifying serial number that can be used to trace the origins of each product, down to which piece of fabric it was cut from and which batch of yarn was used to weave its raw fiber.

We think their initiative is great, even though we think it would be fairly easy for a counterfeiter to just throw any old number onto a metal ring to make the scarf appear genuine at first glance, but then again, maybe the process would just be too expensive to make the fakes worth it.

(In other counterfeit news, we hear Forever 21 is about to be embroiled in a huge fake-related battle - a tipster says an LA lawyer is “representing a handful of names bringing some big suits against them” - care to take some guesses?)”

Source: Fashionista.com & British Vogue

Does anyone else think this is similar to Louis Vuitton using serial numbers in their bags?  The fakers can just do what this blog stated above and slap any old number on there.  Will this help stop counterfeits, and do you think denim-makers will try something similar any time soon?

And on the part about a Forever 21 lawsuit, I am surprised that hadn’t happened sooner - I constantly see L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani rip-offs in Forever 21’s, as well as handbags that look like designer knockoffs of Birkin’s, etc.  That one was just a matter of time.

Celebs in Denim: Victoria Beckham in dVb jeans

Victoria Beckham was spotted at LAX on May 10th wearing a pair of hot pink dVb jeans.  It’s about time she started wearing them everywhere, especially since her recent bad press related to dVb!  What do we think about her hot pink jeans?  Would you wear them?  Personally I am scared of any color that screams “80’s” this much.  But maybe some girls can pull it off.

And how much do we love the Birkin bag?

Why is Barney’s selling Target’s Rogan Line this weekend?

07_targetbarneys_lg.jpg

Rogan Gregory gets his fame for designing fabulous jeans that fit like a dream, that are also eco-friendly.  The fashion community is in an uproar now about Barney’s selling Rogans upcoming line for Target’s Go International line this weekend.  The line is set to hit Target stores May 15th.  Rogan is a former GAP designer, who also has other labels such as Edun, run with Bono’s wife, Ali Hewson; Loomstate - an all organic line of shirts and denim; and his own line - Rogan.  You can find a sneak peek at what some of the Go International pieces for Target will look like here.

ROGAN - WOMEN - DENIM - Jeans

From Friday through Sunday, you can buy Rogan’s collection for Target at Barneys before it goes on sale at Target. Budget shoppers might rejoice at the prospect of being able to afford merchandise at Barneys. But the partnership has created a spell of befuddlement among retail experts who just don’t understand why Barneys wants to confuse its customers by selling cheapie stuff. Barneys currently offers Rogan’s regular line, which includes $230 pants and $320 dresses. “When you have $29 jeans and $250 jeans from the same designer, consumers will start to ask, ‘Is that fabric really worth ten times more than the other fabric?’” one expert said. Call us crazy, but we really doubt the typical Barneys shopper will see cheap clothing in their fancy terrain and regret purchasing all those other designer pieces. Assuming they never had really bad taste, that is.

So why is Barneys doing it? First, the store’s fashion director, Julie Gilhart, wanted more ecofriendly products, like Rogan’s Target line, in the store and was reportedly instrumental in getting Rogan’s Target line off the ground. Considering she’s so passionate about it, why shouldn’t she have the line she helped create in her stomping grounds just because it’s inexpensive? Second, many blog posts like this one will be written about this weekend’s event. (Not to mention we just read a six-page article about it in WWD.) You know what that is, retail experts? It’s called buzz, and it’s ringing off the chain for Barneys right now.

So try not to worry so much about this stuff next time. It’s bad for the skin.

What do you think about Barney’s carrying Rogan’s Target line?  It begs the question, if Rogan can design the same great fitting jeans for $29, that normally sell for $250 at Barneys - do designer jeans really cost designers that much to make, or are we all getting ripped off when we pay higher prices because we believe it means higher quality?
