Shopdroppers leaving band stickers inside 7FAM jeans!

shopdrop

Have you heard of the latest “problem” department stores are facing?  Its not shoplifting…its shopdropping.

Check out this article about how the reverse of shoplifting is happening to brands like Diesel and 7 for All Mankind.  I guess the question is, will these folks get in trouble for the mischief they are getting into?  I mean, can you really be arrested for leaving a CD single in a pair of jeans?  Hmmm….

Celebs in Denim: Pete Wentz & Ashlee Simpson

Because its Friday, we love our readers, and everyone is killing time on the internet before 5pm, extra celebs in denim pics today!  Spotted:  Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and Ashlee Simpson strolling hand in hand in Miami Beach on New Year’s Day - Pete is wearing black Diesel jeans.

And look - Ashlee is wearing ballet flats with skinny jeans!  Didn’t that just make the Best & Worst Trends of 2007 list as one of the worst?  That’s why you can’t always believe those trend lists - we think she looks cute as a button!

Shopping in NYC

This is our first of hopefully a number of travel shopping posts. We’ll start with the Big Apple.

BLM14 our resident NYC shopping and denim expert recommends the following

Dont buy any clothes here on the street unless it’s from a yard sale, they’re almost exclusively fake.

For shopping, you can go ANYWHERE pretty much but there are two major concentrations of shopping and they’re both REALLY big. The area bounded by the bowery on the east, broadway on the west, 14th street on the north, and canal on the south houses a HUMUNGOUS amount of shopping: Barneys, 3 diesel stores, j lidheberg, a levis store, lounge, atrium, blue and green, cloak, replay, evisu, bape, APC, puma, bloomingdales, gstar, and about a thousand other places are all within that area.

Fifth avenue from about 42nd to 59th as well as lexington in the same area and all the sidestreets are full of all kinds of really upscale shopping - Dior, D&G, Escada, Saks 5th avenue, barneys, bloomingdales, and all kinds of super expensive little boutiques are in there.

There’s lots more but if you’re here for a weekend I would just focus on the soho area. Check the superfuture map - it’s a little out of date but it shows you the general area involved and how much shopping there is:

superfuture :: new york :: soho :: map
superfuture :: new york :: nolita :: map
superfuture :: new york :: lower east :: map
superfuture :: new york :: west village :: map

There’s even some stuff that’s not on those maps too…

Best and Worst Trends of 2007

True Religion Julie Skinny Jeans

We found this list of Best and Worst Trends of 2007 on SignsOnSanDiego.com - do you agree or disagree with the assessment of skinny jeans & ballet flats?  We think its a cute look, but agree that only thinner girls can pull it off.  And is it just us, or what the heck are they talking about with the long gloves thing - did we just miss that trend, we haven’t seen in our neck of the woods!

Fashion-wise, 2007 experienced some hits and some misses. Here are a handful of styles that made the list.

WOMEN
Best
Fun, flirty dresses: Lauren Conrad, fashion designer and star of MTV reality show “The Hills,” helped bring dresses back into the fashion forefront. Not only did she wear them in nearly every episode, she even filled her clothing line — Lauren Conrad — with above-the-knee kimono-style and A-line shifts. They make the “Best” list for their ultra-feminine style.

Belted trench coats: Classic sophistication with modern appeal — who could say no to that? The coats were not only functional, the nip at the waist complemented curvier figures such as “the hourglass.” Celebs who repeatedly end up on the fashion A-list — Jessica Biel, Katie Holmes and Jessica Alba — looked fabulous wearing their belted trench coats this year.

Opera-length gloves: These formal gloves that reach above the elbow struck up visions of Rita Hayworth in “Gilda” (1946) and Marilyn Monroe in “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” (1953), and that was a good thing.

Worst
Skinny jeans and ballet flats: Fashion should flatter the figure, not take away from it. This combo did the latter. What was sad was that the masses were wearing this style when only a small sect of the female population could actually pull off skinny jeans. That sect? Very tall and very thin women. The average woman who wears a size 12 shouldn’t have worn these pants because, in doing so, she did her figure a disservice. Because skinny jeans cut off right at the ankles, they make the legs appear shorter than they actually are. And because they cling to the rear, they make it look larger. Since ballet flats don’t offer any sort of height support, they act as accomplices in the crimes that skinny jeans commit.
