From time to time we love to blog for designer denim newbies about what to look for in your first few pairs of designer jeans! For today we are featuring Rock & Republic denim. These are some of our favorites due to the beautiful washes and variation of back pocket designs.
Some of the most popular washes/cuts/styles include:
* The old Victoria Beckham crowns (before her split from R&R), in London cut (watch out for fakes on Ebay - there are a ton - check the Rock and Republic forum on how to find a real pair!)
* Kurts (we love, love, love these because flap pockets make our butt look perkier) and Rays (low-rise and ultra low-rise)
* Berlins (low rise skinny jean)
* Vetters (super short mini skirt)
* Anything in Quaalude wash - dark denim with whiskering, and pink detailing (stitching and buttons)
* Most wanted rare pairs: Stevie Pink Crystal Chromas, Victoria Beckham Crowns in Foam (both highly faked - so beware!)
What we’d recomend to someone trying R&R for the first time:
* A classic pair of Kiedis’ (now known as Kassandra’s) with regular ‘R’ stitching on the back, or the signature logo (Kiedis = low rise bootcut)
* Scorpion’s and Kiss’ are very flattering to girls lacking behinds (low rise utility pocket flare, and bootcut, respectively) - great in a dark wash like Quaalude, Steel, Amethyst, or Uranium
Personal favorites/unique styles we haven’t mentioned yet:
* Vargas - low rise flare with curved pockets (in Lead or Oxygen wash)
* Wingers - low rise flare with flashy stitching (”wings”) along the back waist (in Quaalude, Opium, or Oxygen wash).

“True Religion Reaches Intellectual Property Agreement in Suit Against Triple S”
NEW YORK (Associated Press) - Christie, Parker & Hale LLP, an intellectual property law firm, said it obtained a consent judgment in favor of jeansmaker True Religion Brand Jeans in a trademark-infringement lawsuit brought against competing denim maker Triple S Productions Inc.
As part of the consent judgment, which is a binding written agreement between two parties to have a judgment entered and recorded, Triple S acknowledged the validity and ownership of Guru’s trademarks and trade dress and is permanently prohibited from imitating, copying or making unauthorized use of the intellectual property, Christie, Parker said.
Guru Denim Inc. is a unit of True Religion. At issue was the company’s stylized “U” design and rainbow-colored rotational stitching used on its pants, jeans, shorts, jackets and skirts.
As part of the settlement, Triple S agreed to reimburse Guru for attorney’s fees and costs related to the suit.
A lawyer for Triple S could not immediately be reached.

Rolled pants legs for Spring/Summer 2008?

According to what we are seeing on the runway, it looks like rolled pants legs may be the new trend for Spring/Summer 2008. Doesn’t this remind you somewhat of the pegged leg jeans look from the 80’s? We don’t think we’ll roll our jeans unless its going to flood.
Just in case there are any designer jeans newbies out there, a couple of tips for you, courtesy of ShopBop.com that we thought we’d share:
- “Too much distressing in the wrong place can draw attention to a trouble spot, but a little bit in an area you want to accentuate will give your jeans the perfect worn-in look”.
- “To give the apperarance of thinner thighs, a darker wash may be more flattering”.
- “If you need to have your jeans hemmed, ask the tailor if she can re-attach the original hem to maintain the original look of the jean”.
- “A trouser style is great if you are conscious of your backside, it will provide extra room without looking baggy”.
- “Pocket placement is key to have your bum will look in your jeans. For example, a darted pocket can provide lift and flap pockets will make your butt look perky”.
Note to self: Must find more flap pocket jeans!
